Purpose of Job
To provide support and assistance for Science teachers through preparation, delivery and development of practical activities
to help promote and deliver effective Science education for students.
Objectives

Contribute to the development of the vision for the Department by promoting and contributing to the ethos of Seven Kings
High School, promoting and supporting all school policies
Make an effective contribution to the organisation of the science department
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Regularly review own practice, setting personal targets, and taking responsibility for own personal development
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Provide support for teachers by preparing equipment for teachers’ lessons and by developing experiments for class use or
demonstrations in consultation with teachers.
Provide support, when available, during lessons to supervise students completing practical activities.
Ensuring that the equipment provided for lessons works effectively and is well maintained. Ensuring that equipment is
suitably arranged in the laboratory so that it is easily accessible to all students.
Ensuring that appropriate CLEAPSS Hazcards are provided with experiments.
Removing equipment after a lesson and returning it to its proper storage place. Washing up glassware from lessons in
laboratories before placing in-store.
Maintaining the surfaces and storage areas in the department including trays in the laboratories and preparation room.
Maintaining, and repairing where feasible, any practical equipment.
Operate within the school and local Authority’s Health and Safety framework
Ensure that all chemicals are suitably stored in the department.
Ensuring that suitable Hazard symbols are clearly displayed on chemical bottles and that beakers are labelled appropriately
Maintenance of equipment / materials / environment
Monitoring the laboratories and preparation rooms to ensure that surfaces and storage areas including trays are well
maintained and clean.
Monitoring the laboratories to ensure that the correct amount of basic scientific equipment like tripods, test tube racks etc is
available during lessons.
Ensuring that any broken equipment is replaced/repaired and that stock required urgently is purchased.
Providing assistance to teachers by preparing and displaying work around the department.
Reporting leaks and damage to the Head of Department and the caretaker as appropriate.
General
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, health,
safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
