ROMANS 8:31-39
SERMON TITLE:

 “SECURITY!”
Romans 8 is the most important chapter in the
Bible on how to successfully live the Christian
life.

     LESSONS FROM ROMANS, CHAPTER 8

           • The Indwelling Holy Spirit
           • The Ministry of Prayer
           • Salvation
           • Guilt, Grace, & Glory
           • Predestination

Romans 8:1, “What shall we then say to these things?
If God be for us, who can be against us?”
 IS IT POSSIBLE BEING PREDESTINED
  IN ETERNITY PAST AND GLORIFIED
        IN ETERNITY FUTURE?

        • Is our salvation forever?
        • Is our salvation Eternal?
        • Are we eternally secure in
          our salvation?

Romans 8:35, “Who shall separate us from the
love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine or nakedness, or peril, or
 sword?”

Verse 39, “ … None of these things shall be able to
separate us.”
BEGINNING & ENDING OF
  ROMANS, CHAPTER 8

• No Condemnation
• No Separation
    POINT I
NO ACCUSATION
Romans 8:31, “ What shall we then say to these things?
If God be for us, who can be against us?”

Verse 33, “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God‟s
elect? It is God that justifieth.”

        IS THERE ANY ACCUSATION THAT
CAN BE BROUGHT UP AGAINST US?

        • We have been justified
        • We have been declared not guilty
        • Is there some accuser?
        • Is there new evidence?
        • Is there some new accusation?
             THERE IS NO ACCUSATION
                 Romans 8:3-34

Revelation 12:10, “ … The accuser of our brethren is cast
down, which accused them before our God day and
night.”

        • Satan is the “accuser of the brethren”
        • Satan‟s accusations are illegitimate

          TWO PERSONALITIES WHO CAN
         BRING ACCUSATION AGAINST US

            1. God the Heavenly Father
            2. Jesus Christ His Son
  1. WILL THE HEAVENLY FATHER BRING
       ACCUSATION AGAINST US?

Verse 33, “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's
elect? It is God that justifieth.”

Verse 31, “ … If God be for us, who can be against us?”

              GOD IS ON OUR SIDE
THE CHANGE WAS NOT IN GOD;
   THE CHANGE WAS IN US

   • We fought God

   • We were hostile to God

   • We were enemies to God

   • We rejected God

   • We ignored God
       BEFORE THE WORLD EXISTED,
           GOD WAS FOR YOU

Matthew 1:23, “ … They shall call his name Immanuel,
which being interpreted is, God with us.”

God with us – Jesus‟ Birth (The Incarnation)

God for us – Jesus‟ Death (The Cross)
Romans 8:32, “He that spared not his own Son, but
delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him
also freely give us all things?”

      • God gave the gift of his Son

      • God will not withhold anything
           from us

      • God will freely give us all things

      THE HEAVENLY FATHER BRINGS NO
          ACCUSATION AGAINST US
         2. WILL CHRIST BRING ACCUSATION
                  AGAINST US?

Romans 8:34, “Who is He that condemns? It is Christ
that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at
the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for
us.”

• He is the One who knows how desperate our sins are

• He is the One who knows how despicable our sins are

• He is the One who knows how filthy our sins are

• He bore them [our sins] on Calvary‟s Cross

• Will He accuse us?
CAN WE BE SEPARATED FROM GOD BECAUSE
    JESUS CHRIST WILL BRING SOME
       ACCUSATION AGAINST US?

Verse 34, “Who is he that condemns? It is Christ that
Died.”
          • Christ died

          • He is “risen again”

          • He is at the right hand of God

          • He is making intercession for us

JESUS IS NOT GOING TO BRING ACCUSATION
    POINT II
NO DESPERATION
          CIRCUMSTANCES
Romans 8:35, “Who shall separate us from the
love of Christ? Shall tribulation or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or
sword?”

Verse 36, “As it is written, „For thy sake we are
killed all the day long; we are accounted as
sheep for the slaughter.”

Verse 37, “Nay, in all these things we are more
than conquerors through him that loved us.”
                1. “TRIBULATION”
                        “Pressure”

                2. “DISTRESS
                      “Restricted”

Romans 1:1, “Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ called to be
an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God.”

         The word “separated” means “horizon”

JESUS GIVES YOUR LIFE A NEW HORIZON
      3. “PERSECUTION”

      4. “FAMINE”
         Not enough food

      5. “NAKEDNESS”
         Not enough clothes

      6. “PERIL”
         Exposed to danger

      7. “SWORD”
         Exposed to death

WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERORS
        Total superiority
  POINT III
NO ISOLATION
Romans 8:38, “For I am persuaded that neither death,
nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor
things present, nor things to come …”

       • Completely Convinced

       • Firmly Satisfied

       • Completely Assured

THE THINGS THAT TROUBLE US CANNOT
SEPARATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD

       • Death
       • Life
       • Things that terrify
       • Present things
       • Future things
Verse 39, “ Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God which
Is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

               ASTROLOGICAL TERMS

“Height” – a star at its zenith (greatest
           influence)

“Depth” – a star at its lowest point (least
          influence)

  YOUR LIFE IS NOT DESTINED BY THE STARS;
IT IS DESTINED BY THE SAVIOR
Verse 39, “Nor any other creature.”

The word “other” is the Greek word “Heteros” from
which we get Heterosexual.

     • Homosexual – those who love the same sex

     • Heterosexual – a man and a woman

     • “Heteros” – another of a different kind
IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT IS TOTALLY
 BEYOND ANYTHING WE UNDERSTAND, IT
CAN‟T ISOLATE US FROM THE LOVE OF GOD

          THAT‟S SECURITY!

THE TRUTH OF ROMANS, CHAPTER 8, IS:

      • No Condemnation
      • No Accusation
      • No Desperation
      • No Isolation
      • No Separation
    “SECURITY!”
