CLASS TITLE: HEAD LIFEGUARD

BASIC FUNCTION:

       Perform general lifeguard duties at municipal swimming pools. Supervise pool
operation and staff in Pool Manager's absence.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

       Lifeguard at Memorial, Pioneer and Jefferson swimming pools. E

       Instruct swimming for scheduled lessons. E

       Interact positively with customers; respond to inquiries and complaints; and
       provide information as appropriate. E

       In absence of Pool Manager:

           Train staff in proper procedures and safety practices; establish work
           schedules; and evaluate work performance. E

           Schedule use of pools by the general public including regular sessions,
           lessons, rentals and special events. E

           Perform general pool and facility maintenance by established standards. E

           Coordinate and schedule swim lessons programs. E

           Monitor water quality of pools as outlined by the Department of Health
           Standards.E

       Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    Proper operation of swimming pools, maintenance and equipment.
    Lifeguarding techniques, instructional techniques, and safety used with the
    operation and maintenance of public swimming pools.
    ABILITY TO:
    Perform specialized duties in the care and maintenance of the City pools.
    Understand and follow oral and written directions.
    Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with
    customers, especially adolescents.
    Work courteously and tactfully with customers and employees.
       Manage adolescent behavior when necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
       Must be 18 years of age and have previous lifeguarding and related supervisory
experience. Some knowledge of conversational Spanish may be useful.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
        Current Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor (WSI), First Aid and CPR
certifications; valid driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
         ENVIRONMENT:
         Outdoor environment, in around swimming pools and facilities, in all types of
weather conditions and around children, noise and distractions.
         PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
         Speaking to exchange information on the telephone or in person; seeing and
hearing to conduct work. Meet lifeguarding qualifications for water rescue, CPR and
first aid. Must be able to occasionally lift 40 pound containers and furniture; service the
filtration system valves; climb into pools and onto lifeguard chairs.
         HAZARDS:
         Accidents which may occur around swimming pools; exposure to pool chemicals;
extended exposure to sun light.

CLASS TITLE: POOL CASHIER

BASIC FUNCTION:

      Collect fees for pool usage, lessons and rentals at municipal swimming pool and
promote strong customer service standards.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

       Sell pool tickets/passes; collect fees, account for and balance daily receipts. E

       Housecleaning in and around facility. E

       Perform minor first aid on patrons for cuts and scrapes. E

       Interact positively in a strong customer services environment and respond to
       inquiries and complaints from customers; & provide information as appropriate. E

       Make initial contact with 911 emergency when directed, remain calm, give and
       receive accurate information. E

       Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
    KNOWLEDGE OF:
    Collection of monies, making change, balancing till.
    ABILITY TO:
    Understand and follow oral and written directions.
    Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with
    others.
    Work courteously and tactfully with customers and employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
       Must be 16 years of age, mature and reliable, and have previous cashiering
experience. Some knowledge of conversational Spanish may be useful.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
       ENVIRONMENT:
       Indoor cashier booth or designated area at municipal swimming pools.
       PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
       Speaking to exchange information on the telephone or in person; sitting and
standing for extended periods of time; seeing and hearing to conduct work.
       HAZARDS:
       Contact with dissatisfied or abusive individuals.

CLASS TITLE: INSTRUCTOR AIDE

BASIC FUNCTION:

        Aid lifeguards with swim lessons at municipal swimming pools and promote
strong customer service standards.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

       Assist with swim lessons by working one-on-one with swimmers and
       demonstrating proper swim techniques. E

       Respond to inquiries and complaints from customers; and provide information as
       appropriate. E

       Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

       KNOWLEDGE OF:
       Safety practices used in and around the operation of public swimming pools.
       ABILITY TO:
       Swim safely.
       Work effectively with children in the water.
       Understand and follow oral and written directions.
       Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with
       others.
       Work courteously and tactfully with customers and employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Must be 16 year of age, mature and reliable.
