Kelley Trahan
Autobiography
My name is Kelley Trahan, but I also answer to kel, kella-bella, or “pudding” as
my dad calls me. I am an active person therefore, I enjoy keeping myself busy. I have a
passion for helping children learn by teaching them fun things in ways they have never
seen. I teach three year old kids’ bible school on Sunday morning and just this one
activity has jump started my career as a teacher. Being involved in various activities has
fueled my desire and prepared me for teaching.
I was born at Women’s and Children’s hospital in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on June
14, 1989, to John and Vickie Trahan. I am the middle of five kids; I have an older brother
named Jet, an older sister named Kristina, and two younger brothers named Matthew and
Mark. Some of my special abilities are that I am organized, good at sports, and work well
with children. I love to travel even though I have not been able to go many places. Some
of my favorite places to travel include Disney World, Washington D.C., and Destin,
Florida. Some of my hobbies are coaching volleyball at Hamilton Christian Academy,
swimming, teaching swimming lessons, and playing volleyball and basketball.
There have been many experiences in my life that have taught me valuable lessons.
Since I was young I would help teach swimming lessons at the pool my mom managed.
When I was sixteen I began lifeguarding and teaching private swimming lessons. I have
also babysat since I was fourteen. These jobs have given me an authority position over
kids. They have also helped me gain patience with little kids and have taught me how to
deal with kids who are whiney and hyper. I am currently employed at Paradise Smoothie;
in this job, I work mainly with the public and have to multi-task. I must have patience
with people who are frustrated and unsatisfied. I learned how to be patient by working
with children at church.
When I was in middle school, I have helped with Vacation Bible School at whatever
church I attended. When I was a freshman in high school, I began helping in the kids’
ministry at Bethel Ministries. During my freshman year, I also was on the chapel team at
Bethel Christian School. This group put together the chapel services for the elementary
students. In high school I was part of the National Honors Society and class
representative for Student Council. On May 23, 2008, I graduated from Hamilton number
four in my class with Summa Kum Laudde honors.
My short term goal is to keep my grades high and graduate in May of 2012. My long
term goals are to begin teaching at an elementary level. I desire to be a life-long learner.
A life-long learner is someone who loves to learn, and they are never satisfied with the
amount of knowledge they have. A life-long learner learns from more experienced people
in the same job field. It is important for a teacher to be a life-long learner because a
teacher cannot teach what he does not know. I do not want to be an average teacher; I
want to be the best. I want to teach in a way that can be fun for the students and help
them learn. I want to be a positive influence on every child that I teach.
I enjoy being around people of all ages, but being around younger children brightens
my day. I enjoy working with children whether it be lifeguarding, coaching, or teaching
Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, or swimming lessons. All of these activities have
helped me define what a teacher should be and helped me prepare for my future teaching
career. Kids are my passion. I hope that in furthering my education I will be able to better
prepare myself for teaching the future leaders of the world.
