   2. Start your with the strongest point
   3. Consider the counter argument (the other point of view
   4. Conclusion – End strongly, reinforcing your most powerful argument

You must use EVIDENCE to back up your argument. This could be:-

   1. Facts
   2. Figures – that‟s where you maths based research can be used
   3. Research
   4. Quotes

Facts e.g. Barack Obama has been elected as the new President of the US.

Figures e.g. In Pennsylvania 68.2 % of the electorate (those entitled to vote)
voted for Barack Obama.

Research e.g. A House of Commons report into the 2008 US elections
reveals that more people voted than at any other US presidential election in
history.

Quotes e.g. “When we got there, a 97 year old black man was being
wheeled out in his wheelchair. It was the first time he had ever voted in his
life.”
       SOME PERSUASIVE WRITING TECHNIQUES

   1. Repetition - example:
“Let‟s be the generation that ends poverty in America...
“Let‟s be the generation that finally tackles our health care crisis...
“Let‟s be the generation that finally frees America from the tyranny of oil...
 (Taken from Obama‟s campaign speech)

   2. Rhetorical question (you don‟t expect an answer) – example:

“So tonight let us ask ourselves, if our children should live to see the
next century, if my daughters should be so lucky to live as long as Ann
Nixon Cooper, what change will they see? What progress will we have
made? (Taken from Obama‟s acceptance speech)

   3. Using emotive language e.g. “The 97 year old man in the wheelchair
came out of the polling booth shaking visibly – then tears started
streaming down his face – tears of joy...”
