                                                                                                  Debra Atwood is a third generation Napa Valley family resident and is in her
                                                                                                  eighth year as owner and sole proprietor of Napa Valley Orchids.
                                                                                                  In her own words:
                                                                                                  "After 30 years in Napa's hospitality industry, I needed to make a lifestyle change,
                                                                                                  so at close to 50 years of age, I thought it was time to follow my heart and pursue
                                                                                                  my passion for orchids. I think of myself more as a farmer than a florist. Water,

                                                                                                  A member of several orchid societies, her topic "Growing Orchids, it's not Rocket
                                                                                                  Science" surely will interest the beginner up to the expert grower.

                                            May Board Meeting Minutes
Orchid Society of California Board Meeting Minutes of May 27, 2008
Present were Tanya Phillips, President, Walter James, Vice President, Sharalyn Stebben, Secretary, Dan Chippone, Treasurer, Maren and Ray Glea-
son, Co-Directors and Earle Stebben, Director/Membership Chairman.
President’s Report: She will not be here for the July meeting.
Vice President’s Report: Debra Atwood will be our next speaker and will also do the culture session. July will be a round table with several pre-
senters at different tables. In August we will have the ice cream social and auction.
The evaluation form should be handed out at the beginning of the meeting and turned in at the end of the meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: The treasurer’s report was accepted.
Secretary’s Report: Sharalyn sent a thank you to Paul Chim for his presentation as guest speaker and doing the culture session at the April meet-
ing.
Membership’s Report: There are 119 members and 9 life members. The new roster was printed and will be at the back of the meeting room.
Committee Reports: Mother’s Day Show: Earle Stebben, show chairman, thanked everyone for their help. He estimated there were over 707
hours put in at the show. The board members put in over 300 hours. We needed more volunteers.
Old Business:
Upon reviewing the club’s by-laws it was discovered that we are only suppose to have two directors. Connie Yip’s resignation as director was ac-
cepted. We are now in compliance with our by-laws.
The 501c3 is on hold.
A committee will be formed as to a proper way to remember Past President Joseph Ware.
New Business:
Jo Halberstadt is the new newsletter editor.
There will be an open discussion at the next general meeting regarding the raffle table.
November Show and Sale: We need a chairman.
The next board meeting will be June 24th at Tanya’s home.

A great number of plants were entered into our first ever May, mini-show. This was the Club's attempt at encouraging every-
