Tina – Here is a list of the City of Fort Walton Beach’s activities for the next
OCLOC meeting:

Strategic Plan/Focus Groups
As part of the City’s strategic planning process, the City is hosting a series of
focus groups with citizens to hear what they would like to see in the City.
These workshops will give citizens a chance to tell staff members what they
think the priorities are and where staff should focus in the coming years. There
will be three different types of focus group meetings. The first was a Focus
Forum, a meeting open to anyone in the public with special invitations to City
stakeholders. These meetings were held on Tuesday, February 19th and
Wednesday, February 27th. The next group is the Citizens Focus Groups.
The City sent out letters to 200 randomly selected voters in the city inviting
them to participate in the focus groups. These meetings are/were scheduled
for Wednesday, February 27th at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, February 28th at 4 p.m.,
Friday, February 29th at noon, Monday, March 3rd at 6:30 p.m. and
Wednesday, March 5th at 3:30 p.m. All meetings will be held at the Fort
Walton Beach Library. Invitees are asked to participate in one of the meetings
listed above. The final Super Focus Group meeting will be held on Saturday,
March 15th at the Senior Center. At this meeting, City staff will join the Fort
Walton Beach City Council and the public to discuss the comments made at
the previous focus group meetings and to formulate a plan. Prior to this
meeting, the City Council will each appoint a citizen to join them for the
meeting.

Charter Review Workshops
The Fort Walton Beach City Council started a series of Charter Review
Workshops on Tuesday, February 19th, and will continue the workshop series
on the third Tuesday of each month until May. The purpose of these
workshops is to discuss the City of Fort Walton Beach’s Charter, which has not
been reviewed since 1985. If any changes or updates to the Charter are made
during these meetings, citizens must vote to approve the changes during the
City elections in March 2009. The public is invited to attend and participate in
the workshops. The Charter is the document that establishes the City and
describes the duties of the City Council, administration, finance and other
aspects of the City.

Charity Golf Tournament
The City is hosting the 7th Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday,
March 8th at 8:00 a.m. at the Fort Walton Beach Golf Club, Pines Course. All
proceeds from this tournament benefit The American Cancer Society and The
American Heart Association. The cost is $30 per person which covers green
fees, cart and a continental breakfast. Prizes will be awarded for the top three
teams. To sign up, contact Ginger Gontarek at 833-9664, extension 0.

Bronze Statues
Several bronze statues have been installed at various locations in the
downtown Fort Walton Beach area. Five statues are now at Sound Park, two
at the Fort Walton Beach Library, two at the Fort Walton Landing, and one at
the Camp Walton School House, Vandergriff Park, Lion’s Park and the Fort
Walton Beach Fire Department. The artwork is being paid for by a donation
from the former Mainstreet Organization.
