Seven Years Old





Physical

 Seven-year olds often work and write with their heads down on the desk

 They can move from a three fingered grasp to a two fingered pencil grasp

 Like small confined hiding spaces, away from adult eyes

 Seem to have many hurts and boo boos





Social

 May be a little withdrawn

 Can be moody, touchy, sulky and shy

 May bring home the complaints such as “nobody likes me” or express the

feeling “the whole world is against me”

 Rely heavily on teachers and adult figures for help

 Like to uphold the rules and make sure others do as well; will sometimes

tattle

 Need a lot of reinforcement

 Has very strong likes and dislikes even regarding things that have never been

experienced





Language

 Are good listeners and use precise language to convey ideas

 Like to have one on one conversations and are able to equally contribute and

listen

 Large expansion in vocabulary, like to use big words

 Are interested in and will inquire as to the meaning of words

 Like to send notes and are interested in writing in code





Cognitive

 Like to review concepts and learning until they have everything thoroughly

memorized

 Have learned the value of completed assignments and will work diligently on

a task until it is finished

 Work slowly and carefully generating work that is much higher in quality

than any previously produced

 Like to work alone and will sometimes express dislike of being copied

 Can be perfectionists, repeatedly erasing tiny flaws

 Like board games, puzzles and other manipulative activity

 Want to understand how things works and will disassemble and reassemble

toys





Vision and Fine Motor

 Like to draw and write as small as possible; in fact, the writing produced is

often so tiny it is illegible

 Are able to keep written words precisely along the bottom line on notebook

paper

 Often return to a three fingered pencil grasp which affords more control and

is necessary in order to achieve such miniscule print





Gross Motor

 Prefer board games and playground games to strengthening gym activities

 Enjoy smaller interactive games more than large team sports
