Congressional Veteran Commendation
On behalf of a grateful nation and the citizens of the Twenty-Sixth District of Texas, the Congressional Veteran
Commendation is hereby awarded to Commander Robert Heid (U.S. Navy, Ret.) for honorable service performed while
a member of the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
Commander Robert Heid’s patriotism, loyalty, and professionalism exhibited during his twenty-seven year service in the
United States Navy demonstrate the highest quality of meritorious service to his country. Serving in World War II,
Commander Heid was an aviator aboard the USS Enterprise, where he defended our nation against the Japanese, and
was aboard the carrier on May 14, 1945 when she suffered one of the most devastating kamikaze attacks of WW II.
Commander Heid’s military service extended far beyond World War II, and included tours with the Anti-Submarine
Warfare Group in Norfolk, Virginia and San Diego California. He educated and trained pilots as a Flight Instructor in
Pensacola, Florida. During his illustrious career he was stationed at home and abroad including intelligence posts with the
Sixth Fleet in Morocco and the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington DC. His heroism, devotion, and leadership
earned him numerous military accolades including the Air Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign
Medal with three stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal and the
National Defense Service Medal. Commander Robert S. Heid embodies the time honored history and patriotic spirit of the
United States Navy, and we are forever indebted to him for his selfless service to our nation.
His actions are consistent with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the State of
Texas, and the United States of America.
Signed under my hand this 11th of this November 2008,
