S.M. College is well-known for quality education and unblemished conduct of
examination. Over Seven Thousand students are on roll in different faculties of Arts, Science,
Commerce and various UGC sponsored Vocational Courses like, Computer Applications
(Hons.), Office Management & Secretarial Practices (Hons.), Functional Hindi (Hons.) and
Self Financing Course in BBA. There are altogether twenty three disciplines under which
students are being trained by the dedicated teachers of the college.
DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
The ever increasing use of Computers has enhanced the need for more trained and
qualified personnel at every aspect of life today. The growing demands and challenges of this
universal need have been given the priority by us and as response to this, a three years Degree
Course in various vocational subjects has been introduced from the session 1995-1996. These
curriculum have been framed at the instance of University Grant Commission, Govt. of India,
Computer Professional is the important personnel in any organization. The successful
participants can establish their own Software Development Centre/ Data Processing
Centre/Call Centre of may pursue for higher Degree. They also will be able to work for
companies specializing in Training Software Development, marketing for computer
Hardware, or they have tremendous scope in any organization which uses computer for
The Department of Computer Applications has infrastructure up- graded time to time
as per the need of the course curriculum. Currently it has a newly built Advanced Computing
Lab, with Pentium IV COMPAQ Systems under network along with will equipped and well
furnished AC. Lab. This Laboratory has acquired the Internet connectivity too. A number of
courses are going to be introduced from the current session(like PGDCA and Certificate
Course in Computations & IT). This course is imparted by a no. of qualified, experienced and
dedicated faculties. Recently, U.G.C. has selected this college centre as Network Resource
Centre (NRC) and it has received grant for this purpose.
Reputed national and multinational corporate sectors (i.e. iCODE, Mumbai; IBM,
Microsoft, MegaMind, Wipro) have consented for the recruitment and placement of our

Department of Computer Applications, S.M. College, Bhagalpur lays strong emphasis

After graduating from this stream students are pursuing professional course like
MCA, M.Sc.(IT), M.Sc. (Comp. Science), DOEACC B Level, MBA and M.Tech, etc.
Eligibility for Admission:
(i) Intermediate Science (PCM/PCB/PCMB)

(at least 45% marks is essential for each stream).
The admission to Computer Applications Honours will be made on the basis of the merit
determined by the performance of the candidates in a written test, marks obtained in the last
examination and interview.

Structure of Curriculum
There will be two theory papers each carrying 75 marks and one practical paper of 50 marks.

Paper I Computer Fundamentals and Windows based applications.

Programming using ANSI /TURBO C.
Paper III Object Oriented Programming Paradigms through C++ and Java.
Paper IV Computer Architecture and Database management Systems.

Paper VII DTP Packages and Tally.
Paper VIII Project Work Based on Job Training of Part I and II.
Entrance Test Examination Scheme
(i) The question paper will contain objective question of 75 marks.

Department of Office Management and Secretarial Practices
Office Management and Secretarial Practices is a UGC Sponsored 3 Years Bachelor
Degree Course. This course has been introduced in 1995 at the instance of UGC in order 10
Vocationalize degree level courses under new education policy of Govt. of India. Since than
10 batches have been completed successfully. Our alumni are well placed in the field of
Media/ Print Media, Corporate Sector, and multinationals companies.
This department has a well equipped and well furnished laboratory with modern
office equipments. It also has all IT solutions to aware students of modern age and automate
office work culture.
Our college has a placement cell for the arrangement of placement in Industries,
Corporate Sectors, Multinational Company, Banking and Print media etc. A number of our
alumni are working in the field of media (like, Hindustan Times, Dainik Jagran, BNO,
Angika Vihar, etc.).
Currently, our student are working as Secretary/Manager/Counsellor in ICICI Bank,
DPS School, LG Company, and Multinational ISPs Companies(Reliance, Tata Indicom and

The introduction of the Functional Hindi course mainly aims at exposure of the
younger generation to the nature, usages and terminology of Hindi recognized as Official
Language of the Union by constitution.
This imparts the practical knowledge of the language required to be used for internal
