JETS IN THE COMMUNITY

The New York Jets take great pride in playing an active role in making a year-round commitment to our community.

Programs funded by the New York Jets Foundation touch the lives of countless young men and women in the tri-state area. Re-

alogy Corporation, a premier global provider of real estate and relocation services, and its subsidiary com-

pany Burgdorff Realtors ERA are title sponsors for all of the Jets' community relations programs. Over

the past eight years, the Jets and their charitable foundation have donated or contributed more than $8

million to promote youth health, fitness and education, particularly in disadvantaged communities.

From fighting childhood obesity through the Generation Jets: Be Lean & Green initiative to launching a

football team in a Harlem high school, urging students to eat right and move more, and supporting the

efforts of the Alliance for Lupus Research, the New York Jets invest in programs that make a difference

in the lives of others. In addition to the Jets Foundation, which supports our own extensive youth initiatives, the Jets partner with

numerous established charitable organizations and participate in causes sponsored by the NFL.

JETS HUDDLE WITH UNITED WAY TO HELP IMPROVE

THEIR NEW NEIGHBORHOOD

Florham Park Residents are Seeing Green

On Oct. 7 from 4-6 pm, players and representatives from the New York Jets will take part in the NFL’s annual Hometown Hud-

dle, an NFL-wide day of service with United Ways across the nation, by renovating a park in their new hometown - Florham Park,

NJ.

Jets players James Dearth, Vernon Gholston, Erik Ainge, Dustin Keller, Dwight Lowery, Jehuu Caulcrick, Kenwin Cummings,

Ropati Pitoitua and Marcus Henry will conduct a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the

completion of renovations to Beechcrest Park, located off Joyce Court in Florham Park. The

entire project, estimated at close to $150,000, includes a fitness cluster in the play area,

installation of a new basketball court, swings, park benches, a backstop, and trash recep-

tacles. Sponsors for the project include the New York Jets, Borough of Florham Park, Realogy Corporation, Burgdorff Realtors ERA,

NFL Charities, and United Way of Morris County.

“For years this municipal property was sadly in disrepair. Missing baskets, dilapidated tennis courts, antiquated fencing and

bleachers for the baseball-soccer field, and not nearly enough fitness equipment did not allow kids to have any meaningful op-

portunities to play and use Beechcrest Park,” commented Scott Eveland, Mayor of Florham Park. “Happily that is no longer the

case, thanks to the park improvements brought about through the 2008 "Hometown Huddle" cooperation by the Jets, United Way

of Morris County, and the Borough of Florham Park. Together we can proudly celebrate this new asset for our community. We look

forward to beneficial relationships between our town, our United Way charitable umbrella organization, and our "hometown" New

York Jets Football team for many years to come.”

To promote youth health and fitness under the NFL’s Play 60 campaign, Jets players along with volunteers from Burgdorff Real-

tors ERA, Realogy Corporation, Florham Park Falcons Youth Football and United Way of Morris County will help complete the fit-

ness zone project, including final installation, assembly, and painting. Then, players will play flag football with the Florham Park

Falcons, a team of second graders all hailing from Florham Park. A few eighth grade players will be on hand to help out as well.

Designed to tackle childhood obesity, NFL Play 60 focuses on the health and wellness of young fans by encouraging them to be

active for at least 60 minutes a day.

“The Jets are proud to call Florham Park home and look forward to getting more involved in this great community,” said Matt Hig-

gins, Jets Executive Vice President of Business Operations. “The Jets and our charitable foundation are committed to promoting

youth health, fitness and education. This focus aligns perfectly with the work of United Way and we are proud to partner with

them in this effort to advance the common good in Morris County.”

JETS IN THE COMMUNITY

“At United Way, we know it takes much more than money to impact our communities,” said John Franklin, CEO

at United Way of Morris County. “We commend the work of the Jets to do their part to positively influence Mor-

ris County - their new home. Together we can accomplish so much more than any of us can on our own. We

look forward to a long relationship working with the Jets to positively impact and improve our communities.”

The NFL/United Way “Hometown Huddle” is an NFL-wide day of service that provides NFL players, coaches,

wives, and staff from each team the opportunity to participate in a variety of community-service activities, in-

cluding such projects as building playgrounds, serving food to the homeless, visiting local military bases, and

funding after-school programs for underserved children. Started in 1999 by the NFL and United Way, Home-

town Huddle continues to help make a difference in local NFL communities.

This community-based project will be the first for the NY Jets since relocating their corporate headquarters and

training facility to their new 20-acre site in Florham Park, NJ. With this newly renovated park, town and county

residents will have access to a state-of-the-art, clean, and safe place to play.

"We welcome the Jets to their new Morris County home, and we’re proud to partner with them as they contribute

to their new community," said Dave Weaving, chief administrative officer of Realogy Corporation, the parent

company of Burgdorff Realtors ERA.

“Burgdorff ERA is committed to giving back to our local communities, and sponsoring renovations of the

Beechcrest Park is one of the ways we can do just that,” said Pat Hoferkamp, President of Burgdorff ERA. “To

be affiliated with the New York Jets and the United Way of Morris County makes the final result even more ex-

citing. I can’t think of a better way to say ‘Welcome Home’ to the Jets than this memorable day of service.”

Second grade players from Florham Park Falcons scheduled to attend include: Timmy Amalfitano, Carter Dernier,

Matthew Doherty, Michael Doherty, Timmy Doyle, Justin Eveland, Michael Ferrone, Michael Hare, Alan Hayes,

Kevin Julich, DJ Layden, Louie Magliaro, Alexander Malofienko, John Martin, Christopher Pepper, Matthew Zuck-

Eighth grade students on hand to assist include: Shane Carpenter, Tim Williams, Kevin Healey

About The NFL and United Way: In 1973, the NFL and United Way of America forged a partnership that has

become the sports industry’s most visible and longest-running public service program, using players and other

NFL personalities to promote community service through public service television ads. Throughout the years,

United Way fundraising has soared from $800 million to $3.91 billion and the NFL-United Way partnership has

evolved from a fundraising organization to a community services provider, on programs and services that far

surpass the well-known television spots. Teams and their players support the local United Way chapters in their

communities year-round through personal appearances, joint programs, and campaign contributions.

About United Way of Morris County: United Way is working to advance the common good by focusing on edu-

cation, income, and health. These are the building blocks for a good life – a quality education that leads to a

stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. We address issues most

critical to the future of Morris County by bringing attention, expertise, and resources to them. It is our goal to

create long-lasting changes that prevent problems from occurring. Together, united, we can inspire hope and cre-
