Sandra Caldwell, Judy Mardar, Michelle Marotti and Jill Murphy
Other Required Materials: One CD/R or CD/RW.
Length of Class: 40 Contact Hours.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is designed for students who want to learn Word 2007, PowerPoint 2007 and
Excel 2007. Topics covered will enable students to create word documents, PowerPoint
presentations and customized spreadsheets using Excel.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Personal Computers and keyboarding.
COURSE GOAL:
The course goal is designed to provide the student with an understanding of the basics of
Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion the students will be able to demonstrate the following:
1. Create a business letter, a memorandum, a simple report and a flyer.
2. Create a presentation including clip art, transitions and animation.
3. Create several spreadsheets with charts.
Grading:
Successful completion of this course requires 90% attendance and satisfactory class
participation (i.e., be able to demonstrate proficiency in all concepts taught). If a student
has extenuating circumstances causing absences of greater than 10% of the class time, the
student must make arrangements with the instructor to provide evidence of keeping up
with the class material and making up the work, exercises, and projects missed; or
demonstrate competency in the course objectives. Students with irregular attendance,
less than 90% attendance, or is unable to demonstrate competency will receive a grade of
NG (no grade).
Labs:
Lab exercises, when applicable, are due on the date assigned by the instructor. Late
assignments may be accepted only at the instructor’s discretion.

It is not possible to pass this course without regular attendance. College policy requires
attendance of at least 90% of all class meetings to receive a passing grade. Any
exceptions to this policy for unavoidable absences must be arranged in advance with the
instructor. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange completion of make-up work in a
timely manner.
