How Can I Serve!
Brad Rine – 2006 Board Member/Worship, Central Ohio Emmaus Community
As the leaves are changing colors, this can be a time of joy for some and maybe depressing for
others. For some it can mean the beginning of fall sports, harvest time, and the coming of the
holidays. For some it may mean the end of summer, camping, and outdoor family activities. For us in
the Emmaus Community it may mean some extra time that we can serve in some way for Emmaus.
I would like to share the joys of performing the duties of the Worship position. At the gatherings I set
up the music and the Fourth Day speakers. It’s always interesting to talk to various individuals when
searching for these volunteers and to share how their Fourth Days are going. For candlelight service
my wife and I get to light the pilgrims’ candles which is a special event for all of us. And for the closing
and the other events I take care of the sound system along with setting up the Communion elements.
After going on my walk and being part of a team, I learned to appreciate what goes on behind the
scenes and the duties that everyone performs. There are always so many blessings when you serve
and the pilgrims are always blessed in some way.
You may think there are only so many positions to serve and how can I serve. One way would be
to come to the gatherings so we all can have fellowship and grow stronger as a community. Another
may be to sign up to help the Kitchen team or Logistics team. Do you remember when you came into
the sanctuary on your walk for candlelight? How awesome would it be that we consistently were full
to the rafters with candles? How about at the closing if it was a full house to hear the pilgrims share
their experience with us? It always amazes me to see where someone came in to the weekend and
where he or she is at closing. There are always plenty of opportunities to serve. Just show up and
chances are you will stumble across an opportunity.
Decolores,
Brad Rine
