METROPOLITAN BUILDING SERVICES (MBS) ANNOUNCES THE COMPLETION OF
THE NEW BALANCE FLAGSHIP STORE ON FIFTH AVENUE
NEW YORK—August 18, 2011—Metropolitan Building Services, LLC (MBS) is pleased to
announce that the firm has recently completed the construction of the 3,500 square foot New
Balance Flagship Store, located in the Flatiron District at 150 Fifth Avenue.
New Balance Athletic Shoe. Inc., the Boston‐based athletic products company that
manufactures and sells high‐performance shoes and apparel, leased the retail corner at 20th
Street and Fifth Avenue for its Manhattan flagship store. New Balance hired MBS to build a
high‐end retail store that features a showcase sneaker assembly area and an indoor running
test track. The MBS project team worked closely with Perkins+Will, Core Resources and the
New Balance team to realize New Balance’s vision for a unique retail experience.
Jeff McGarry, Facilities Project Manager for New Balance, said of his experience with MBS, “In
my capacity as Manager of Construction for New Balance Athletic Shoe, I am exposed to the
performance of 30 to 40 general contractors each year. Metropolitan Building Services has
proven to be exceptional. The New Balance flagship store on Fifth Avenue and 20th Street was a
very challenging project due to existing concealed conditions, owner generated changes to the
scope of work and a fixed completion date. Metropolitan Building Services not only met these
challenges, but also were able to satisfy the strict reporting requirements of New Balance. It
was a true pleasure working with a talented and dedicated crew and I appreciate all the
sacrifice they put in to make the opening a success today.”
