about Samuel North (Nathan Mobley), who has just been murdered and sent to Hell. There, in
"the Pit", two other damned souls on the run help Samuel escape back to the world of the living
to be reunited with the girl he loves. But now Samuel has Hell to pay: the Netherworld has sent
three REAPERS (unstoppable bounty hunters from Hades) to hunt and kill each of the escaped
men. Samuel must solve his own murder and fight for his soul's redemption in order to escape

                         DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT:
I thought it would be interesting to do something that is rare in an independent film and tell a
story on a much grander scale than had been done in the past. So I constructed a story where
Samuel North, the lead character, is on the run for 80% of the movie. He has escaped from
Hell, and the Netherworld has sent a team of Reapers (unstoppable bounty hunters from
Hades) to bring him back-- so this movie is packed with hyper-kinetic action, crazy stunts, and
some wicked creature FX. In the end, I wanted to make the kind of movie I'd actually go out
and see on a Friday night with all my friends. THE OTHER SIDE starts with a bang and
doesn't stop until the very last frame.

I initially got excited about the external rollercoaster that the movie would take the audience on,
but what really got my blood pumping was the internal rollercoaster that was going on inside the
protagonist. While Samuel is on a journey to reunite with the girl he loves, he has to
eventually face the reason he went to Hell. So this film has plenty of action and effects in it...
but it's not about action and effects. At it's core, THE OTHER SIDE is a human story about a
man who has to face his inner demons, while he's literally fighting his outer demons.
                             PRODUCTION NOTES:

The movie was funded by writer/director Gregg Bishop from the profits made off his
award-winning short film VOODOO, which has won over 10 film festivals world wide including
the 2000 Global Anarchy Audience Award at the Slamdance Film Festival. The short was
featured on Sci-Fi Channel's EXPOSURE, KCET's FINAL CUT with Alfre Woodard, and is
currently being screened for incoming film students at USC film school orientations.

THE OTHER SIDE was an extremely ambitious project for the filmmaker. "I knew I needed a
killer producer on board who possessed a strong knowledge of production and had a passion
that was equal to mine." Bishop's first call was to his high-school friend; producer Chad
Eikhoff. "After reading the first draft of THE OTHER SIDE, I knew I wanted to help make it."
says Eikhoff. "It is a completely new premise with tons of amazing action all while maintaining
an emotional dramatic connection to the characters. That kind of film just doesn't come around
very often and I knew we could make it something great."

The movie was primary cast out of Atlanta, where the film was shot. Casting director Jonathan
Spencer put the best actors in the south in front of Bishop and Eikhoff. "We spent three
months casting the movie and we saw a lot of people, but we were having a difficult time finding
a lead actor who could carry a movie," recalls Eikhoff. Bishop concurs, adding, "One of the
most important ingredients of a movie is who you cast. Nathan Mobley came in to read for the
part of Samuel and just blew everyone else away. He was and remains one of the most
talented actors I've ever worked with."

"Gregg constructed a movie where the story in many ways is the star, and my job as an actor
was to help that story along", states Mobley.

Bishop wrote the comedic part of Mally for actor Cory Rouse, with whom he had worked with on
VOODOO. "When I went to make this movie, I couldn't believe that Cory hadn't yet been
discovered and wasn't acting in big studio features. He has an incredible gift for comedy and is
an amazing impov artist", says Bishop. "I like to say that he was my secret weapon in this
movie."

Rouse shared the enthusiasm. "I was thrilled to work with Gregg again. He creates a fun
atmosphere that's contusive to creativity. He brings out the best in everybody and really knows
how to tell a story".

Bishop recalls speaking with the cast before the shoot: “I told the cast before we started the
movie that it would be the hardest thing they've ever done. I told them if they wanted to jump
ship, this was their chance."

For Bishop and Eikhoff, the shoot proved unpredictable. "I never believed in ghosts until I made
this movie, but we definitely heard and saw some strange things,” says Bishop. According to
the director, the cast and crew regularly encountered hauntings, most notably the sound of a
crying baby that echoed throughout the halls of a defunct, deserted hospital, which served as
one of the film‟s key locations. "We were trying to get the set quiet to film," recalls Bishop, "but
we kept hearing this baby crying. We found out later that we were filming next to what used to
be the nursery ward where a lot of infants had apparently died over the years."
Audio from that location does include faint cries which cannot be accounted for, admits Eikhoff.
“If you listen closely to certain scenes, you can actually hear the cries,” he said. “I‟ve heard
crazy stories about ghosts and hauntings from time to time, but it‟s a little different when it
happens to you. I guess if you make a movie that involves the supernatural, though, you're
bound to get visits from the other side.”

THE OTHER SIDE was a true guerilla filmmaking experience and was shot on Super 16mm film
on location in Atlanta, Georgia. "By shooting in my hometown of Georgia", Bishop explains, "I
was able to feature fantastic and unique locations that not only served the story, but also had
never before been captured on film." Also, Eikhoff reasons, "I knew we could take advantage
of a film-friendly environment and pull off a much grander movie than we could if we were
shooting in LA."

The film was shot extremely fast. Lead actor Nathan Mobley outlines the shoot as physically
and mentally exhausting. "We were literally only stopping to eat and sleep. Gregg and Chad
had it the worst, they were averaging about three hours of sleep per night", he says. "I really
don't know how they did it. Those guys are machines."

Bishop shot the movie with a loose documentary style to give the film gritty realism and a unique
energy. Chad recalls, "By shooting doc style, we created an atmosphere where we could be
very mobile with the cast and crew. Since Gregg was the camera operator and the editor, we
were able to be extremely proficient and shoot only what we needed". This allowed the
production to move at a breakneck speed, averaging an unheard of 70-80 set-ups per day. "I
knew if we were going to pull this movie off at an independent level", explains Bishop, "we had
to shoot fast and work ten times harder than all the other guys that have the luxury of huge
budgets and long schedules. By shooting fast, we were able to blaze through scenes, get
plenty of coverage, and give the movie an energy that's missing in most Hollywood movies we
see today."

The crew consisted mostly of a rag-tag group of local Atlanta film students from Georgia State
University. Eikhoff recalls, "It was totally like Bowfinger at first, the kids were turning on lights in
their eyes and tripping over cords", he laughs, "but by mid-shoot, we were a well oiled machine.
These guys had so much passion, so much love of film that I guarantee they'd work circles
around any union crew I've ever seen."

"We were having the time of our lives making this film," Bishop adds, "and it definitely shows
through in the final movie. I still get calls from the crew asking me when we're going to head
down there and do it again."

In THE OTHER SIDE, Bishop takes audiences into the afterlife, and his unique vision for Hell is
different from anything that has been seen before. "Usually in movies, Hell is portrayed as fire
and brimstone with little demons running around," says Bishop. "In this movie, Hell is a place
of pain and suffering-- not just physical pain, but mental and emotional pain as well. You are
forced to re-live the worst moments of you're life over and over again. The lost souls arrive in
Hell nude, so they're totally exposed to the elements. It's cold, it's wet, and it's scary." The
scenes, which were shot in an underground tunnel under Atlanta, proved to be the most
challenging in the shoot. "not only were we in water, but it was FREEZING cold and the group
of actors and actresses had to be completely nude. It‟s sufficed to say that shooting Hell was
Hell."

The death-defying stunts in THE OTHER SIDE were provided by Nils Onsager and the Black
Knight Stunt team. "Nils brought this film to a whole other level. Not only is Nils extremely
knowledgeable and experienced in his field, but he also possesses a solid understanding of
story and character. He was able to choreograph unique fight scenes that were consistent for
each character all while moving the story forward." One of the most outstanding stunts
includes a three story high-jump into a moving truck. According to Eikhoff, "when you see this
shot, you're jaw will drop".

Since the Reaper roles were the most physically demanding, Bishop cast a lot of the Reapers
from Nil's stunt team. "I told Nils at the very beginning that this is not the Matrix. I never
wanted to see a reaper throw a kick," says Bishop, "the Reapers kill their victim's in the quickest
and most efficient way possible, which means they are using weapons and only dealing 'death
blows'. They are there to kill, not play." Bishop explains that the Reapers are demonic souls
straight from Hell that inhabit fresh dead bodies, and they have one goal: to kill the fugitives who
have escaped and send them back to the Netherworld. Eikhoff notes that the Lead Reaper,
played by Daniel Massey Tovell, actually goes through a transformation where he takes his true
demonic form here on Earth. This transformation on film required the use of both high-end
animatronic effects and cutting edge digital creature animation.

The animatronic creature effects were handled by Special Effects master Matt Green. "Matt
works for the Tom Savini special makeup effects program in Pittsburgh, so he was able to build
the reaper creature in his class with the help of his students." Bishop and Eikhoff ended up
with a beautiful fully articulated puppet that was used for close ups. The wide shots were done
completely as CGI. The creature was modeled and animated by Wes Parham under the close
eye of Bishop, Eikhoff and the Visual Effects Supervisor Matt Shumway, whose credits include
X-MEN 2, GARFIELD and NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. "What
they pulled off blew past any expectations I had," states Bishop, "they produced a photo-realistic
creature that is in par with anything you see coming from the top effect houses in Hollywood."

The sound department consisted of Bishop's fellow USC film school colleagues. "I knew I
could blow this movie out in post, because all of my friends I graduated with moved into
post-production jobs and are extremely good at what they do." Jamie Hardt, whose credits
include FANTASTIC FOUR and SPIDERMAN, designed the sound for THE OTHER SIDE and
D.J. Lynch mixed the film in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound.

The original score was composed by Emmy Award-Winning composer Kristopher Carter. The
movie required over 70 minutes of music and "had to sound big", according to Bishop. "As an
artist, I'm always seeking projects that present broad creative horizons to explore," states
Kristopher. "THE OTHER SIDE doesn't just settle for being a simple action/adventure movie.
There's a deep mystery, a love story, and a search for atonement from past wrongs. All of that
requires the composer's attention, and I was really pleased to find a project that successfully
combines all these elements into such an engaging story."

"Everyone who came on board in this movie brought it to a whole new level," concludes Bishop.
"The cast, the stunt team, the visual effects artist, and Kris with his incredible score all helped
make THE OTHER SIDE as big as it is. I could not be more proud of the finished product and I
hope audiences have as much fun watching the movie as we had making it."
                                FILMMAKER BIOS:
GREGG BISHOP
(Writer, Director, Producer, Editor)

Gregg grew up in a small town in Georgia and started making movies when he was 7 years-old
with his father's film and video cameras. In high-school, he ambitiously wrote, directed and
produced a low-budget feature film at only 17 years of age. "It was my filmschool before
filmschool. I learned everything NOT to do." He has recently graduated from the University of
Southern California School of Cinema-Television in the Film Production Program. His short film
VOODOO has won over 10 film festivals world wide including the Slamdance Film Festival and
is now screened for incoming USC film students.

THE OTHER SIDE is Gregg's first feature film out of USC. "I thought it would be interesting to
do something that is rare in an independent film and tell a story on a much grander scale than
has been done in the past. So I constructed a story that is packed with hyper-kinetic action,
crazy stunts, and some wicked creature FX. I wanted to make the kind of movie I'd actually go
out and see on a Friday night with all my friends," explains Bishop. "While this film has plenty
of action and effects in it... it's not about action and effects. At it's core, THE OTHER SIDE is a
human story about a man who has to face his inner demons, while he's literally fighting his outer
demons. "

Gregg's next 2 feature film projects include a horror/adventure film called "DANCE OF THE
DEAD" written by Joe Ballarini (who has just scripted "The Blob" remake for Warner Bros), and
a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat thriller that he is currently writing himself.

CHAD EIKHOFF
(Producer)

After his debut feature film, Chad Eikhoff was dubbed by Atlanta magazine as one of Atlanta‟s
„cutting edge artists‟ and named „Best Atlanta Filmmaker‟ by The Atlanta Press, His film played
to sold-out crowds and he has been included in a show of the top 10 emerging artists in the
Southeast. Eikhoff then went on to produce, write and direct for the original Homestar Runner
online cartoon (www.homestarrunner.com). In addition, Eikhoff has created short films for cable
broadcast and exhibited in several art exhibits.

After founding Wonder Studios, Eikhoff was looking to follow up his successes with a film that
was totally unique. “After reading the first draft of „The Other Side‟ I knew I wanted to help
make it. It is a completely new premise with tons of amazing action all while maintaining an
emotional dramatic connection to the characters. That kind of film just doesn't come around
very often and I knew we could make it something great. Not to mention, we were gonna blow
cars up and have stunts coming out of our ears…that‟s some insane fun!”

Eikhoff‟s next projects include the animated series „Triumphant Tools‟, the script for a bad ass
sci-fi adventure and, of course, the sequel to „The Other Side.‟

KRISTOPHER CARTER
(Composer)
Kristopher Carter began his career as one of the youngest composers to work for Warner Bros.
He received an Emmy Award for "Batman Beyond", as well as three other Emmy nominations.

Association and also received a fellowship to Robert Redford's Sundance Composers Institute.
He served as the first Composer-In-Residence of the Bel Canto Northwest Opera Festival and
has given clinics across the country on film composition.

Regarding THE OTHER SIDE, Kristopher says, "As an artist, I'm always seeking projects that
present broad creative horizons to explore. "The Other Side" doesn't just settle for being a
simple action/adventure movie. There's a deep mystery, a love story, and a search for
atonement from past wrongs. All of that requires the composer's attention, and I was really
pleased to find a project that successfully combines all these elements into such an engaging
story."

MATT SHUMWAY
(Visual Effects Supervisor)

Matt Shumway has had a love for animation since he was in the 4th grade. He made his first
animated film at the age of 17.

Matt graduated with distinction from one of the countries top illustration schools, Arts Center
College of Design. There he created his award winning film, "Over the Moon."

That film lead him to Rhythm and Hues Studios where he now works as a staff animator. His
feature film credits include X-MEN 2 and GARFIELD. He has just finished working on Disney
and Walden Media's THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE.

NILS ONSAGER
(Stunt Coordinator)

Nils has an affinity for violence and action. He thrives in a world of mayhem and risk. He
attended Georgia Institute of Technology and got both an engineering degree and a black belt
degree in martial arts. During college, he supplemented his tuition by falling off of horses and
sword fighting in a live stunt show, which toured the US. In the decades that followed, he has
focused on developing his coordinator and choreography skills.

“When I met Gregg and Chad for the first time, it was love at first sight. They were on the road
to make the kind of film I love: Seat jarring action, earth rending mayhem and heart wrenching
conflict. To work with this dream team was amazing. They brought everyone into the creative
process without ever once losing focus of making this awesome film. They inspired me to form
the Black Knight Stunt Team and leveraged the team to create some unbelievable sequences.”

Nils has a unique style of creating fights and stunts based on physics and physiology. “When a
character dies, we know the medical reason of what killed them, this helps tell the story with a
depth missing these days in action film. Besides it‟s just plain fun to throw someone through a
door.” This approach of hands-on, engineer problem solving, and a focus on the results and
story is unmistakable.

Nils‟ next features include the werewolf film, CREATURES OF THE NIGHT. Visit the black
knight stunt team at http://stunts.blackknight.com.

NATHAN MOBLEY
(as Samuel North)

Nathan's first film role came at age 12 when he co-wrote and starred in a movie he called
Indiana Bones and the Lost Scroll, a tribute to one of his favorite big-screen sagas. Regretfully,

in Master Harold and the boys; Mercutio in Shakespeare's R&J; and Richard the Lionhearted in
The Lion in Winter. The Other Side marks Nathan's feature film debut. "I love movies, and the
unique process of making this film gave me an opportunity to be involved beyond the typical
realm of an actor. Working in such an intimate environment helped flesh out the story we were
telling and the relationships with the other actors. That intimacy really brought out the best
from everyone because we trusted each other and we were rooting for each other."
Nathan is thrilled to be acting in two upcoming film projects: Enigma, a sci-fi short now in
post-production, also starring The Other Side cast mate Cory Rouse; and a film noir suspense

second time at Slamdance after he starred in the short “VooDoo”, also directed by Bishop,
which won Slamdance‟s Anarchy Award in 2000. “It is hard to believe that a kid that used to
get in trouble for making up characters in a mirror is basically still doing the same thing and
getting paid to do it. God Bless America!”
