Note : Answer o'll questions.

l. Read the passage and answer the questions given below :

Sight is not only a precious gift we enjoy but also the
most precious gift we can give. Yet there are few of us
who really know and act on that. Lack of awareness on
eye donation means millions of people continue to live
without sight, when just a r simple act could give them
     back their vision

Every time one person donates his or herr eyes, it
gives sight to.two blind people since each eye is given to
one person. And there are an estimated 12 million blind
people in India of whom three million suffer corneal
blindness, which means their vision can be restored with

    04 P.T.O.
donor eyes. So, logically, even if 1'5 million or so
donated their eyes every year, all these three million blind
would gain sight. Then came the shocking revelation,
                                      ,everyyear, only
though we have about 95,00,000 deaths
10,000 people donated their eyes in a year. Eye
donations fall short becauseof lack of concerted effort on
a national scale by a/eryone who needs to be involved,
  namely, professionals,the media, Government, voluntary
  organisationsand civil society at large.

There are many superstitionsand strange beliefs to
contend with in India, especiallyin rural areas : orr€ ditl
be born disfigured or blind in the next birth if eyes are
removed before cremation/burial or there is
scarring/disfigurernentand this mars the sanctity of the
last rites, There is also a misconception that the process
involves unnecessaryhassleslike taking the p€rson to the
hospital and waiting for procedure and/or even paying
for them. Many are unawarethat the doctors come home
and do it within hours and all free of cost. All this also
explains why we import a large number of corrpas, frorn
Sri Lanka where eye donation is considereAsacted.

Finally, consent and coopeiation of family
members/survivorsis vital. If threy don't call a .dqctor in
time, or. oppose the team when it arrives; €\t€rl an
eye-pledge form from the donor can't be effected.
Conversely even if .a person hasn't pledged his/her

eyes, but the family calls an eyebank, the donation will
  be effected"

However, the woeful lack of awareness in India
disturbs doctors. Even among those who know better, the
grief and shock of death often renders family members
too dumb and traumatised to remember to call an eye
bank and arrange a donation. Eyes have to be harvested
  within six hours of death.

Almost everyone can donate eyes. Even those who
wear spectacles, with high 8.P., diabetics or even those
with systemic disorders like asthma, tuberculosis, or have
undergone cataract surgery can donate eyes. The only
criterion is healthy and clear cornea. And the best news
is that everyone, gou and I, can make a difference to the
speed and success of this movement by pledging our eyes
and encouraging others to do the same.

   Questions t

             country ?

reception, your messagesbeing mysteriously deleted oi
your battery degenerating, there is good chance that a
mobile virys has infected your phone. The most notori'ous
viruses doing the rounds are the Carib virus and
Comwarrior virus, which work like any other computer
viruses and are in the form of operating system file virus.
These could be transferred while you are messagingor
down-loading files frorn the net or receiving infectd files
in the form of messages pictures.

The signs of infection are slow keypad functions,
quick battery discharsl€, locked camera functions,
automatic deletion of stored files and poor reception. The
biggest problem is ignorance of these viruses as they are
new. Often, people are unaware their phone has been
infected until they begin to have erratic or chronic
pboblems with their instrumen!, A message alerting the
user about the presenceof the virus is the only safegpard.
