RELEVANT THEATRE
The male y chromosome is decaying. Our environment is filled with estrogen. What do these
add to? The extinction of men. Happy is a man clinging to his masculinity and his tattered
chromosomes, seeking one moment of stillness.
BECOMING A MAN
Happy is a man played by a woman to portray the possible extent which estrogen has affected
men. Happy continues Victoria Goring’s thematic exploration of gender identity, the search for
one’s individuality, and the relationship between humans and our increasingly toxic environment.
Playwright/Actor Victoria Goring has enjoyed this challenge to embody the opposite sex.
A HISTORY OF INNOVATION
Happy is Urban Spine’s 4th site-specific Toronto Fringe show. Past “BYOV” ’s include the sold-
out Sooz, and Lie With Me*, the award-winning script Run*, and Swordtales (next at the
Lorainne Kisma Theatre for Young People). Before Reality TV, Urban Spine was placing
audience members in the reality of hypothetical worlds for a complete theatrical experience.
*Both directed by Kelly Fanson. Kelly has been instrumental in developing Victoria Goring’s
large cast shows into dynamically staged shows.
