Ashland's STLP group has been busy! We made products
for our school Entrepreneur Fair, and that was a success.
STLP wants to be known for our cooking skills too! We have
been collecting yummy recipes for our Ashland family
cookbooks, along with our regular responsibilities of the
newspaper and morning show. Our school newspaper is
completely produced and written by our STLP students. Our
paper includes an advice column, information about
upcoming events at our school, student created comics,
student surveys, and food reviews of local restaurants.
Ashland's morning show is a daily broadcast that is live and
viewed by everyone at Ashland by using our in-house
network. The morning show is an interactive and
student-led way that we have our announcements every
morning. The students welcome substitute teachers to the
building, announce birthdays, explain events happening in
the school, and inform the school about the weather. We
are excited to be using our new camera and microphones
to improve the quality of our news show. We will also be
able to view our news show on our blu-ray player and the
students will be able to see what improvements they would
like to make to the broadcast.

And the Winner Is…
Garden Springs’ STLP students serve our school community
by serving as the technical crew for teachers and students
who need help on digital entries into our Annual Garden
Springs Film Festival. Each complex/curricular area is
responsible for entering a video into the Festival, which
culminates with a school wide OSCER (Outstanding
Students Collaborating for Educational Rewards) Awards
Ceremony in May. Often teachers have no idea how to
film, edit or burn their video productions—that’s where we
come in. We help in all these areas and beyond. Last year
our students, besides filming and editing several of our
OSCER entries, began working with green screen
technologies and this year have volunteered to assist our

produce our school’s videos, they also help run the OSCER
Ceremony itself by greeting, running the spotlights and
sound as well as filming the event. As May quickly
approaches, our STLPers will become busier and busier
with requests to help get the entries ready for what we
hope will be the best Garden Springs Film Festival yet!

Webcasting
Webcasting is the streaming of live audio and video over
the Internet. With the help of a Small Learning
Communities grant, the Student Technology Leadership
Program, and the help of ihigh.com, Henry Clay is now
webcasting home sporting events and academic events.
Using a laptop, mixing board, amplifier, video camera, and
headset microphones, we are able to encompass several
different learning experiences into each broadcast,
including (but not limited to): audio production and mixing,
live on-air broadcasting, videography, and sideline
reporting. With all of these new capabilities students are
able to gain valuable experience in the fields of
broadcasting, journalism, audio/visual production.
The reach of the webcasting extends beyond the
classroom, too. By broadcasting over the Internet we are
able to reach out not only to the immediate Henry Clay
community, offering them live sporting event coverage as
well as announcements and academic functions, but we can
also reach thousands of students, parents, relatives,
alumni, and friends worldwide connecting them back with
the Henry Clay family. With new technology we can make
all sorts of events – athletic, academic, and otherwise –
available to those associated with and interested in Henry
Clay all around the world.

One Student At a Time
Our STLP club has adopted a school from Africa. This
school has 400 students and is extremely poor. Our goal is
to video conference with the students in Africa throughout
this year. We will then sponsor a school blanket drive this
winter. Our goal will be to gather enough blankets to be
able to send each child in the school one blanket so that
they will have something to sleep on. Through this
experience, we hope to help all students realize that no
matter their circumstances, we can always reach out to
help others.
Lansdowne Elementary Cafeteria Table 30
WLAN News
Our school has had a news program for a while, but our
goal this year is to make it more student based. Previously,
staff members have videoed and edited the news for the
school. This year, students have worked to help write the
script, video, and edit the news themselves. We have also
incorporated more of the students in the school so that on
any given day, multiple classrooms and students are
featured showing off their knowledge of classroom work or
technology skills. Teachers and students are really enjoying
the changes that are underway.

Digital Art
Digital art has arrived. The digital drawing pad by Wacom,
and others, have revolutionized the manner in which young
artists express themselves. Student artists of all ages have
at the ready multiple textures, brushes, pencils, chalks, and
papers to create to the full extent of their current
capabilities. Make no mistake, there is a decent learning
curve, but the student of today can overcome these
obstacles and have success fairly quickly. The early results
at Leestown are quite encouraging. Our goal is to provide a
unique technological experience for all interested students
at Leestown and to prepare them for what they will en-
counter in high school and beyond.

WMAX - ¿Qué Pasa en Maxwell?
The purpose of WMAX - ¿Qué Pasa en Maxwell? is to
provide school wide curriculum enrichment that engages
students at every grade level as well as enrichment with
the Spanish language and culture that is an integral part of
our program. The students have differing opinions that
impact the course of a production, so they learn to be
creatively flexible while still producing a quality show that
provides them a chance to speak and write in Spanish. Our
students produce a daily news show that infuses Spanish
language output along with content information. The
morning news show has an impact on students'
self-confidence and media literacy. We share news of the
school along with Spanish language clips and science and
social studies content. It becomes part of a classroom's
morning routine to turn on the morning news, and teachers
and students have come to depend on it as an effective
way to distribute information and reminders to all teachers
and students on a daily basis that fosters a sense of
community.

WVPE
Fifth grade students produce a daily morning television
show. Each of four teams is responsible for one week a
month. Jobs of anchor, feature, camera, editor, and
manager are assigned by the teams and a weekly plan is
developed. Included in the program are features such as
"Classroom Spotlight", "Meet Someone New", "Voices in the
Hall", "Turtle Talk", "What's For Lunch", "VPE Pets", etc.
Students meet 4 afternoons a week in the library to
research topics and plan programs for their week. Students
also promote school service projects and PTA projects and
Showcases
events. They are developing 2 music videos to teach
cafeteria rules and study skills.

Warrior News
Each morning the STLP club runs a news/announcement
program. The program reports daily announcements,
keeping students and staff updated on current school
events and news. The students also organize media
presentations that need to be run over the news program
such as videos and PowerPoint presentations that help
keep students and staff informed. Students rotate through
various jobs in the news room that include reporters,
camera crew, teleprompter operators, as well as setup of
equipment each morning.

Warrior Techsters
Members of the STLP club will develop How-To
demonstrations, along with videos, to help enhance the use
of technology in our school and community. Students will
research and determine a need for technology help
sessions and create their own tutorials. They will use
various avenues to deliver their information, ranging from
the creation of How-To DVDs to operating a Technology
Open House that will run in conjunction with our 21st
Century Program where staff, students, parents and
community members can come in and learn about different
aspects of technology.
