The Banking System
The British Banking System is now heavily committed to the use of computers in order to give a much
faster and more effective service to the increasing number of people who now have bank accounts.
The banks make heavy use of cashpoint machines. These are special computer terminals which are
connected to the bank's computer and which allow customers to withdraw money and make use of other
banking services outside of normal banking hours.
All bank cheques are capable of being read by the computer, and bank statements, which show the flow
of money through a bank account, are produced by computer.
Telephone banking is becoming popular with a large number of customers. This facility makes it
possible to do all of your banking from home, after security checks have been performed.
Many banks provide an Internet banking service and are soon to be followed by all of the major banks.
