SERVICE Department: Undergraduate Coordinator for the 96-97, 97-98 and 98-99 academic years. Advised students, developed course schedule and promoted the undergraduate program for the department. Department enrollment grew over 80% during this period. Coordinator for the Internship Program for Political Science students. Students have been placed in over fifteen internships in the last two years in Congressional offices, state legislative offices, and Democratic and Republican Party headquarters. Serve as advisor to the Mock Trial organization. The Mock Trial team advanced to the national tournament in 1999. One of our team attorneys was named to the All-American team. Chair of the University-wide Retention Committee 1998-2000. Committee analyzed the problem of retaining students and offered measures to improve the retention rate at the University. Member of Search Committee for Retention Coordinator, Spring, 1998. Member of UNF's 25th anniversary Faculty Forum for public speaking. Made ten presentations on behalf of the university. The topic for presentation was: "The Changing Politics of Florida." Panel Speaker for the Intemational Baccalaureate student program. June 1997. Community: Attended and help organize the "Forum for the Future." Named one of the 100 "Emerging Leaders" of the Jacksonville, October 15-16, 1999. Organized a community wide forum on "Citizen Participation and Political Leadership" for Jacksonville Community Council Inc. Over 100 citizens attended, April 24, 1999. Chair of a JCCI study on Citizen Participation and Political Leadership for JCCI's Forward 25th anniversary conference. Named to a Steering Committee of "Emerging Leaders" of Jacksonville by the Jacksonville Community Council Inc, February, 1999. Interviewed by the Florida Times Union and the St. Petersburg Times over fifty times regarding local and national politics. Interviewed by all four local television stations over fifty times regarding the legislative session, city politics and presidential impeachment. Moderator for two Political Debates involving Duval County School Board Candidates sponsored with the Florida Times Union, the League of Women Voters, and Channel 4. Producer and Expert Consultant for the video, Political Changes. This video explains the Florida Constitutional Revision Process and the amendments that will appear on the ballot in November of 1998. Conducted a workshop, "How to Lobby" for the Florida Conference of Neighborhoods. Jacksonville, FL, September, 1998. Board Member, League of Women Voters of Northeast Florida. Director of Voter Services, duties include directing projects to generate voter turnout. UNF Political Science students have served three internships with this organization. Conducted workshop, “How to Lobby” for Institute of Government at the Crown Point Elementary School, January 1998. Testified at the Hearings of the Florida Constitutional Revision Commission, July 1997 Jacksonville, FL. Testified about proposed changes in the constitutional initiative process.
