Optional Benefits Brief Description
You or an eligible dependent pay only 30% the rate of undergraduate in-state tuition at any OUS
institution for up to 12 credit hours for either undergraduate or graduate courses. Your final

savings varies depending on OUS institutions, course load, etc. Employees using the fee privilege
(Staff Fee Privilege) for themselves will not be charged for additional student fees. Family members of employees will
be charged student fees on top of the discounted tuition rate. Some programs not included.
The Tax Deferred Investment (TDI) 403(b) plan is a voluntary retirement savings plan for all OUS
employees (except student employees). TDI offers both before- and after-tax savings investments

of up to $16,500. (Once you are over age 50, you can contribute $5,000 more.)
Savings Plans (You can
choose one or both plans) PERS offers you the Oregon Savings Growth Plan (OSGP). The Oregon Investment Council offers a
selection of investments of up to $16,500 you can pay into before-tax. (Once you are age 50 or
over, you can contribute $5,000 more.)
Additional Life Insurance You can purchase optional group life insurance for you and eligible dependents.
$106 Payroll Deduction may be charged before- or after-tax at the employee's discretion for
Annual Parking Permit standard monthly parking in PSU parking lots. (The average downtown monthly parking fees are
$155-$176.)
$39 Payroll Deduction per month (over 11 months) may be charged before- or after-tax at the
Annual TriMet Passport employee's discretion for TriMet's Annual Public Transit Pass. (The non-PSU rate for an annual
transit pass would cost $86 per month.) See "Useful Links" for additional benefits this pass offers.
A Health Care reimbursement account allows you to contribute up to $5,000 of before-tax money to
pay for certain medical expenses.
Flexible Spending Accounts
A Dependent Care reimbursement account allows you to contribute up to $5,000 of before-tax on
child or elder care expenses (for example, babysitting, daycare, or in-home care for an older
dependent incapable of self-care).
Disability Insurance PEBB sponsors Short Term and Long Term Disability Insurance when you self pay for the coverage.
The accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) plan provides 24-hour coverage for accidental
Accidental Death Insurance loss of life, limb, hearing, and speech from $50,000 to $500,000 when you self pay for the
coverage.
Long term care insurance (LTC) covers care for substantial assistance with activities of daily living
Long Term Care Insurance for PEBB members and their enrolled family members when you self pay for the coverage.
5% discount at the Helen Gordon Child Care Center; hourly drop-in day care available at the
Child Care Associated Students of PSU (ASPSU) Children's Center.
University Library You have full access to the Portland State University Library System services and collections.
The new Student Rec Center offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities to the university
Recreation Center community. The fee is as low as $30 per month compared with $40 or more per month at other
fitness centers.
