In July 2004 GCS convened a national convention on “Excellence in
Corporate Citizenship and Global Compact” jointly with Federation of
Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI). Numerous
organizations submitted papers / case studies focused on their experiences and
good practices on CSR and implementation of the Global Compact principles.

In March 2005 in Jamshedpur, India, the world’s first “Global Compact
Regional Conclave in South Asia” took place. Hosted by the Confederation
of Indian Industry (CII), Tata Steel, GCS and the UN Global Compact Office,
the event brought together more than 200 senior representatives of companies,
civil society and the UN to facilitate regional collaboration. The meeting
resulted in a number of GC-inspired solutions to contribute to the
     implementation of the MDGs.
