Study Hall for Credit
Welcome to Study Hall for Credit! You have been hand selected for this course as a means to
improve your academic success in high school. During this semester I hope you will not only be
successful in your current classes, but also gain life skills that will help you be successful in school and
other pursuits in the future.
Study Hall for Credit differs from a traditional study hall class because in addition to having time
to complete assignments and study for other classes, students will also engage in activities specifically
focused on helping them develop good habits, make good decisions for themselves and ultimately take
responsibility for the outcome of their own lives. Learning skills for success in school is an ongoing
process and while we will start good habits this semester, it will be up to you to continue these habits
in the future.
Required Materials: a binder for classes (I recommend one for all classes)
dividers
pen/pencil/paper
homework/study materials
Grading Policy:
Grades will be Pass/Fail and will be based on work logs, participation, and binder checks.
Work Logs: (5 points daily)
This is your daily grade for being on task. Each day in class, students will login to Power Schools
to monitor their grades and catch up on any missing assignments. Students will record grade
information in the work log as well as recording how the study time was used. The work log
must be completed before the end of class, dated, and left in the student’s in-class file in order
to receive credit.
Participation:
Students are will receive credit for participating in study skills/life skills activites.
Binder Checks:
Each Friday that you are in Study Hall, your binder will be checked for organization. To receive
credit, you must:
Have your binder in class (both A day and B day if you keep separate binders)
Have notebook dividers in place and labeled for each class
Place a calendar at the front of your binder and record test/project due dates on
it
Place all loose assignments, worksheets, tests etc. in the appropriate divider
Behavior Expectations
All school policies apply here. Do not bring bags/backpacks of any kind to class. All personal electronic
devices (cell phones, I-pods, etc.) should be powered off in the classroom. No food will be permitted in
this computer lab. In addition, students are expected to:
Respect yourself: Come to class ready to learn and have high expectations for yourself. You are
being provided with a unique chance to improve skills that will be critical for success in
school and life. Make good use of this opportunity.
Respect others: Treat classmates, teachers and visitors with dignity and respect. Use
appropriate language and behavior for school. Do not disrupt others’ learning.
Respect property: Refrain from touching items that do not belong to you – this includes
classmates’ and teacher’s belongings. Do not mistreat this school, this classroom and
the materials provided to you. Fines will apply for damage to computer equipment, so
