Job Description







Job Title: Stage Door Receptionist (casual)





Job Summary





Festival City Theatres Trust is the largest independent theatre organisation in Scotland. The

Trust manages two of Scotland’s major presenting venues, the Festival and King’s Theatres.

This job plays a key part in welcoming business visitors, contractors and visiting companies.









Main Duties & Responsibilities



Customer Care



 Welcome visitors to the theatre and deal with incoming telephone calls, making sure that

enquiries are dealt with promptly and efficiently.

 Take messages where appropriate and make sure that they are dealt with in good time.

 Welcome visiting companies to the theatre, book in to dressing rooms, distribute FCTT

information packs, keys, etc.

 Respond efficiently to requests for information.





Safety and Security





 Assisting with emergency procedures.

 Open up and close up theatres, as part of rostered work patterns, including a walk round of

the building.

 Monitor and control external perimeter security as directed.

 Monitor fire and intruder alarm panels and CCTV and report incidents as appropriate.

 Record incident information and brief managers as required.

 Ensure that safety and security systems are enforced.

 Attend call-outs as part of a rostered work pattern.

 Receive and distribute post and other deliveries.

 Ensure that deliveries are in good condition or mark up damage before signing for them.

 Control outgoing collections and report if items are not collected at expected time.

 Ensure that incoming delivery items are dealt with promptly.

 Operation and control of lighting in public areas to ensure optimal / minimal energy use.

 Coordination and booking of staff taxis.

 Prepare and distribute of Back-of-House show reports after each performance.

 Note any building or cleaning issues reported by staff or customers and report them to

Cleaning and Maintenance teams.

 Able to demonstrate a professional approach, dealing with visitors / callers quickly,

efficiently discreetly and courteously.

 The ability to remain polite and calm when under pressure.

 Reliability and ability to work unsupervised.

 Ability to deliver a quick, clear and friendly telephone response, including the ability to deal

with different types of call in the appropriate manner.

 Friendly, welcoming and helpful in dealing with staff and customer requests.

 Good communication skills, oral and written.

 Accurate worker with a good eye for detail

 Tidy and organised

 Ability to recognise regular callers and visitors with tact and confidence

 Ability to think clearly and remain calm in an emergency.

 Be positive and flexible with a helpful attitude

 Experience of customer facing security related work

 First Aid qualification

 Computer literate

Outline Terms and Conditions





The details below are intended as a useful guide to some general terms and conditions for this

post.





Job Title: Stage Door Receptionist





Department: Stage Door

Line Manager: This post is line supervised by the Stage Door Supervisor

Location of work: King’s Theatre and Festival Theatre, Edinburgh

Contract: This is a casual contract for a fixed period of time, from c. 28 July to 4

September 2010.

Hours of Work As a casual member of staff you may work variable hours and times per

week as agreed in advance with your line manager. This job involves

working shift rotas, including evenings weekends and occasional

overnight work. As a casual contract hours are variable but we plan to

rota between 30 and 40 hours per week during the EIF show period

preceded by 16 to 20 hours in the first couple of weeks training.

Rate of Pay £7.28 per hour, paid weekly in arrears by electronic bank transfer.

Staff will be paid holiday pay at the end of this contract period.

Notice Period There will be a minimum period of one week’s notice should either party

wish to terminate.

Dress Code As a public representative for the Trust you are expected to be well

presented at all times during your work.
