D41 CRIB WALLS/ GABIONS/ DRYSTACK MASONRY
310 DRYSTACK INTERLOCKING MASONRY
Designed to be constructed without mortar or pins to create retaining walls up to 1200mm
high where there are no slopes above or below the wall and no surcharge. Anchor
Diamond® can be used for taller walls with the inclusion of geosynthetic reinforcement.
The blocks incorporate a rear lip which automatically provides a uniform setback and
perfect alignment, thus speeding installation. The system is flexible enough to shift and
expand with ground movements around the blocks. Acheson & Glover can also provide a
design and specification service.
The blocks available are:
Anchor Diamond® Dimensions: 435mm wide x 150mm high x 300mm deep.
Weight: Approx 29kg.
Face coverage: Approx. 15.3 units/m²
Batter: 10.6°
Compressive strength: 24 N/mm²
Bond: Stretcher
Finish: Textured.
Anchor Diamond® Cap Dimensions: 450mm wide x 75mm high x 250mm deep
Weight: Approx 16.5kg.
Anchor Diamond® Corner Dimensions: 200mm wide x 150mm high x 300mm deep
Weight: Approx 14.5kg.

Substrate: Compacted trench base deep enough to bury one course of units with 150mm
of compacted base comprising 20mm gravel with fines or selected hardcore 20mm to
dust – for walls up to 1200mm high. Walls greater than 1200mm - consult Acheson &
Glover’s technical department.
Features: Consult with Acheson & Glover for recommendations and details.
Geogrid reinforcement: Not required for walls under 1200mm. As clause 330 – for
walls more than 1200mm high, as specified by Acheson & Glover’s technical
department.
Backfill: Consult with Acheson & Glover for recommendations and details.
Design parameters: Consult with Acheson & Glover for recommendations and details.
Assembly/ Installation: As clause 320.
320 LAYING DRYSTACK INTERLOCKING MASONRY
The specification below is designed for use with walls up to 1200mm high with no slopes
above or below the wall and no surcharge loads. For walls greater than 1200mm consult
with Acheson & Glover’s technical department.
Installation: To specified line, level and batter, with vertical joints aligned and all voids
filled.
First course: Commence wall construction at the lowest elevation. Ensure the
foundation material is level in all directions. Lay the base course of blocks ensuring all
units are in full contact with the base material and that the vertical edge to each unit is in
full contact with the edge of the preceding unit. Base course blocks should be aligned
longitudinally and levelled front to back, side to side and relative to adjacent units.
Subsequent courses: Clean any debris from the top of the blocks. Construct the second
course of the wall by ‘centering’ a unit directly above the vertical joints of the course
below. Pull top block forward until back locating lip is in contact with block below.
Place drainage pipe behind the block facing units in accordance with the project design
drawings. Backfill with 2-20mm free drainage gravel 300mm behind the wall, in 150mm
layers. Fill in the voids.
As required by the project design drawings, connect geosynthetic reinforcement to the
units at the appropriate wall elevations. Geosynthetic reinforcement should be of the type
specified by designers and must be installed in the correct orientation. It must be laid flat
and covered by at least 150mm of backfill prior to operating vehicles over it. Repeat
subsequent unit installation instructions to the finished height of the wall.
Backfill: To top of each course as work proceeds and compact in layers not exceeding
150mm deep. Sweep debris from top of each course before laying next course.
330 GEOGRID REINFORCEMENT
Geogrid reinforcement is not required on walls up to 1200mm high with no slopes above
or below the wall and no surcharge present. For walls over 1200mm a reinforced soil
backfill is required using geosynthetic reinforcement. Acheson & Glover can also
provide a design and specification service and it is recommended that they are consulted
early in the design process.
