AN APPEAL We are all well aware of the extensive service to Sri Vaishnava Sampradayam rendered by Sri. U. Ve. V.S. Karunakarachariar, third son & disciple Sri. U. Ve. Villur Nadadoor Ashukavi Sarvabhauma Srinidhi Swami, for the past 40 years.

Sri Nadadoor Azhvan was one amongst the 74 Simhasanadipatis annointed by Bhagawat Ramanuja (1017-1137 A.D.) himself for propagation of Sri Vaishnava Sampradayam. He was also Bhagawat Ramanuja‟s younger sister‟s son. As recorded in all Srivaishnava Guruparamparas, at the culmination of his avatara in 1137 A.D. Bhagawat Ramanuja conferred his Sri Bhashya Simhasana on Sri Nadadoor Azhvan. In accordance with this episode, Sri Nadadoor Azhvan‟s descendants have since been glorified with the title of “Sri Bhashya Simhasanadi patis”.

Sri Nadadoor Ammal (1165-1275 A.D.) was the grandson of Sri Nadadoor Azhvan and the grand preceptor of Swami Desikan. During the childhood days of Swami Desikan, he was blessed by Sri Nadadoor Ammal. The compilation of lecture notes of the Sri Bhashyam rendered by Sri Nadadoor Ammal at the premises of Sri Varadaraja temple, Kanchipuram is called “Sri Srutaprakashika”. But for this detailed commentary, the grandeur & depth of Sri Bhashyam would have remained largely unknown to this world.

Ghatikashatam Ammal was the son of the great grandson of Sri Nadadoor Ammal. He authored many works like “Sri Yatiraja Vijayam” etc. Srimad Adivan Shatakopa Yateendra Mahadeshikan, founder of Sri Ahobila Mutt was Ghatikashatam Ammal‟s disciple.

Following the foot steps of his father, Sri Srinidhi Swami, a celebrated descendant of this renowned lineage, Sri Karunakarachariar Swami has continued the tradition of Acharyapurusha Sampradayam as established by Bhagawat Ramanuja and has been performing Samashrayanam and Bharanyasam for the disciples of Nadadoor Ammal Tirumaligai for the past four decades. Sri Karunakarachariar Swami has been nurturing Bhagawat Ramanuja Sampradayam in various ways by delivering

discourses across the country on varied subjects like Itihasas, Puranas, Divya Prabhandhams and works of Poorvacharyas. In addition to this he has also been conducting Kalakshepams on Grantha chatushtayam (Sri. Bhashyam, Geeta Bashyam, Bhagavadvishayam and Srimad Rahasyatraya Saram)

He is an erudite Scholar in Sri Bhashyam and has been actively participating in Sri Bhashya Vidwat Sadas held by various institutions like Sri Malola Vidwat Sadas organized by Sri Abhoila Mutt, Sri Paduka Vihara Vidwat Sadas conducted by Srimad Andavan Ashramam, Sadas held by Poundareekapuram Andavan

Ashramam, Sri Parakala Mutt etc.

For the past seven years, he along with his brother has been carrying forward the tradition of conducting Sri Nadadoor Ammal Vidwat Sadas which was initiated by his father 55 years ago. He also been conducting Vidwat Sadas at Thiruvananthapuram on the ocassion of the Thirunakshratram of Sri Gopala Samudram Nadadoor Srinivasa Seshaswami for the last decade.

He is a mutilingual prolific writer who has been contributing articles in English, Sanskrit, Tamil for magazines like Vak, Sriranganathapaduka, Hayagreevapriya, Sri Nrisimhapriya Sudharma etc. His immense contributions to the cause of Sri Vaishnava Sampradayam has been recognized by various institutions. Srimushnam Srimad Andavan conferred upon him the title of “Shastra Sahiti Vallabha”, in the inaugral ceremony of felicitation of Vedic Scholars, along with leading scholars of our Sampradaya like Sri U. Ve. Navlpakkam N. S .Ramanuja Tatacharya Swami. He was also awarded the title of “Pravachana Bhooshanam” by the Vendata Desika 700 th Thirunakshtram Committee. Srimad Paravakottai Andavan Swami conferred upon him the title of “Sorkondal” and “Desika Darshana Choodamani”. “Varavakchaturah”, Pravachana Tilakam”, “Vidwanmani”, are some of the other titles awarded to him by various institutions and eminent personalities. Sri. Karunakarachariar Swami, who was born in the Tamil year ”Sarvajit” (1947) will be celebrating his 60th birthday on 30.08.2007, Thursday (Tamil Month Avani, Star Uttirattadi). 2

On this occasion, on behalf of Sri V. S. Karunakarachariar‟s fans & disciples, the Karunatrivenee Publication Committee plans to bring out a compilation of some of his works in English, Sanskrit & Tamil titled “Karunatrivenee”. This compilation is a confluence of three volumes, Ganga, Yamuna & Saraswati which would contain works of Sanskrit, Tamil and English respectively. Sri Nadadoor Ammal Trust has consented to bring out the Sanskrit & Tamil volumes. The English version would be published by the Hyderabad monthly magazine „Vak‟. It is estimated that the cost of publishing Sanskrit & Tamil volume alone would be Rs.2.0 lacs. The finances of Sri Nadadoor Ammal Trust are not in a position to bear the whole expense.

Hence we earnestly appeal to well wishers and patrons like you to liberally contribute towards this cause and ease the burden on Sri Nadadoor Ammal Trust.

We request you to kindly oblige to this appeal and enthusiastically participate in the release of “Karunatrivenee”. Please send in your contribution in the form of Cheque or DD payable at Chennai in favour of
