							CAUL International Travelling Fellowship

The Council of Australian University Librarians offers an annual international travelling
Fellowship to improve the capacity of Australian university libraries. The Fellowship was
established in 2010 with the transfer of accumulated funds to CAUL from UNISON, a
partnership of the university libraries of New South Wales and the Australian Capital
Territory, formed to facilitate dialogue and enable cooperation.

A travelling Fellowship of up to $5,000 is provided competitively each year to support overseas
investigations of current issues of importance to university libraries in Australia in accordance
with the conditions set out below. Applications may be made by any staff member at a CAUL
member library with the support of that library’s university librarian. Applications must be
submitted in accordance with the application process and by the due date announced by
CAUL each year.

Criteria
The CAUL International Travelling Fellowship is awarded by the CAUL Executive on the
advice of a panel established by the Executive, consisting of three university librarians
including at least one member of the Executive and one university librarian from New South
Wales or the Australian Capital Territory.

The criteria for selecting the successful application are:

   a. The potential of the investigation described in the application to further the goals
identified in the CAUL Strategic Plan with preference given to applications which
      appear likely to promote innovation.
   b. Demonstrated ability of the applicant to complete the nominated investigation.
Preference will be given to early to mid career librarians with the capacity to develop
      as leader of the profession.
   c. Support from the university librarian at the applicant’s library including, where
necessary, funding to cover any additional costs of the investigation.

                                                                                                1
Conditions
Applications for the CAUL International Travelling Fellowship are made by a letter in
accordance with the following conditions:

1. The written application must set out in not more than two pages the aims and anticipated
outcomes of the proposed investigation, its relevance to the goals of the CAUL Strategic

and evidence of website searches to identify best practice libraries for visits.
         b. Applications should provide as much clarity as possible about the planned itinerary
and the reasons for selecting particular sites to visit, conferences to attend, or
             other activities.
         c. Applications should provide a communication strategy that outlines how the
findings will be disseminated, including publication or reporting at the home
             institution.
2. A curriculum vitae of not more than four pages must be attached to the application to
indicate the applicant’s capacity to complete the nominated investigation.

             to complete an investigation.
3. A letter of endorsement from the university librarian must also be attached, confirming
support for the investigation and, where necessary, the availability of funding to cover
     additional costs of the investigation.
4. Applications must be emailed to the CAUL Executive Officer for receipt by the due date
     announced by CAUL each year.
