Reading –
The Hitching Post, established in
1961, is a full-service gift shop,
providing quality giftware and
greeting cards for all occasions. The
shop offers pewter, stained glass,
pottery, glassware, women’s
accessories, woodenware, Boston
items, jewelry and more. The
Hitching Post is the perfect place to
find “Reading” products and unique
greeting cards from independent card companies.
Many of their items are handcrafted by local artisans. One example would be
woodenware by Geneva Smithlin of Lexington, who takes vintage wooden pieces –
bowls, cutting boards, recipe boxes, trays, etc. – refurbishes them and decorates each
piece with a woodburned naturistic design. These unique pieces go with any décor, and
make a great gift for “the person who has everything.”
Owner Leslie Leahy lives in Reading with her husband and two children, who are
graduates of the Reading school system. She believes that “Reading is a great community
to raise a family in!”
Her staff members are ready to assist customers and box and bow purchases at no
additional charge. Summer hours in July and August are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5
p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. The rest of the year, The Hitching Post is open from 9
a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, Thursday nights until 7 and Saturdays from 9 a.m. – 5
p.m.
The Hitching Post is located at 190 Haven St., telephone 781-944-9224.
