The Rose Garden

Client: The Rose Garden.

Brief: Design the logo and menu for national trust tea

room.

Outcome: I designed the logo in the style of a grand

country house sign, such as the typography and

layout, as the tea rooms is set in the grounds of a

country manor.

The rose is a strong graphical symbol so a classic

flourishing rose was used as the logo mark.

Software: Adobe Illustrator.

Soho is...

Client: University of Portsmouth.

Brief: Explore and area of London and produce a

poster that you feel represents that area.

Outcome: After visiting Soho, I felt that it was such an

array of cultures that it couldn’t be represented using

a single image. So I chose to describe the area with

images I collected. In essence I am describing Soho

with Soho itself through the medium of photography.

Software: Adobe Photoshop.

Wallpaper*

Client: University of Portsmouth.

Brief: Examine the design magazine Wallpaper* and

screenprint a poster that represents the content/style

of the magazine.

Outcome: When looking through a number of issues

I found that the magazine was focused on imagery

and most of all, the content was mainly built up with

adverts.

Using this observation, I created a poster that was

based on a fashion advert within an issue. The colour

was used in the advert as was the typography and the

layout reflects the proportion of imagery, white space

and type used in the magazine and what I feel reflects

the content of the magazine.

Software: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign.

Printing: Screenprint.

Green Consumption Initiative

Client: The University of Portsmouth

Brief: Self elected brief to explore the issues of

consumerism and it’s effects on the environment,

society and the economy.

Outcome: I created a campaign called the Green

Consumption Initiative, which aimed to address the

issues and provide solutions on how people can

move away from a consumerist lifestyle and limit their 01.

impact on the world through consumption.

To this end, I created an educational booklet, printed

on recycled paper, to be the focal point of information

for the campaign.

Software: Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop.

Client: Self Initiated.

Brief: Design a brand/identity for myself. Including a

CV, business card and other promotional material.

Outcome: I wanted to design a logo mark that can

be used across all platforms as a reference point to

the designer. The logo mark is made up of the bowl

of two ‘D’, one of which is reversed, and they are laid

together to create my other inital ‘S’ in the negative 01.

space.

I also created my CV and business card which on

the reverse had a promotion piece that displayed

my skills. I wanted my CV and business cards to

have a professional feel and the reverse shows my

personality and my skill set.

Pugwash Magazine

Client: Pugwash Magazine.

Brief: Design spreads for articles included in the

magazine.

Outcome: Spread One: Two separate articles within

the ‘Arts and Ents’ section so designed in the same

style to maintain consistency.

Spread Two: Article about an up and coming band

that I wrote as well as designed. The article was

designed using the bands colours.

Software: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign.

On White Space

Client: University of Portsmouth.

Brief: Design a magazine spread for an article about

the use of white space in a design journal.

Outcome: Because of the formality of a journal the

layout was justified to stay in keeping with the formal

format of the journal.

I used images of a naked man to represent a page/

blank canvas, and accessories i.e.watches are used

to represent items of page content such as images.

Software: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign.

Identitype™

Client: ISTD Award Scheme.

Brief: Explore the ideas of fakery using typography.

Outcome: I created a typographic card game based

on three typefaces that can often be mistaken for one

another; Helvetica, Arial and Akzidenz-Grotesk.

The game consists of two elements; The first, is a

learning exercise where the user learns facts and

history of the typefaces and also information about

it’s design to help recognise it. The second element

is putting the knowledge learnt in the first round into

practice, by identifying which of the ten common

04.

logo’s that used Helvetica in their original design are

the originals. There are thirty cards in total. Ten are

the original designs, ten are designed using Arial and

ten are designed using Akzidenz-Grotesk. A point is

awarded for each correct typeface identified

The box and leaflet were designed to accompany the

cards and are designed in the style of type specimen

sheets. 01.

Discover

Client: University of Portsmouth.

Brief: Design a tourist information resource for

Portsmouth.

Outcome: I created an iPhone application because

after undertaking market research a modern resource

was a preference for visitors and this must include

information on not just tourist attractions but also,

nightlife, events, user reviews and a map of locations

The app was designed in the style of standard iPhone

application interface so that it will increase easy

usability as the format is the as that of itunes etc and

blue was chosen as the colour because it is the colour

of the city.
