									                     Augustin-Louis Cauchy




Augustin-Louis Cauchy was born on August 21st, 1789, in Paris, France, and
he died on May 23rd, 1857, in Sceaux (near Paris), France. His major contri-
butions to mathematics were in the study of both real and complex analysis
and the theory of permutation groups. He also developed several theories in
differential equations, determinants, probability and mathematical physics. For
