The purpose of this senior design project is to introduce a screening
technique to identify people at high risk for diabetic foot ulcerations.
Diabetics are susceptible to foot ulcerations on the bottoms of their
feet due to low circulation and a condition called neuropathy. The
condition neuropathy is the result of nerves that connect to the
brain and spinal cord from the rest of the body are damaged or
diseased. Without feeling in the foot, it makes the detection of
ulcerations impossible to detect unless daily checks are performed.
A solution for reducing the amount of time performing daily checks
is to create a device that scans the foot when connected to the
docking station to detect pressure changes in the sole of the foot.
Each shoe is outfitted with seven pressure sensors located at seven
of the most likely spots for foot ulcers. The pressure sensors are
connect to the docking station via a DB9 cable, to a operational
amplifier to amplifier the analog signal from the pressure sensors.
