Columbus (Powell), Ohio I worked as a freelance graphic designer from June 2005 – March 2006. My responsibilities ranged from the creation of pitch presentations to branding and identity development. I worked on projects for Domino’s Pizza, Tommy Hilfiger, Sprint/ Nextel and many others. Dayton, Ohio I started my own design business in the winter of 2005. I still use it for freelance work when I have the time. Dayton, Ohio The Mazer Corporation designs text books. I started off in image research and was promoted to junior designer.

mask
problem statement: design and construct a three-dimensional mask out of 2-ply Bristol paper without the use of adhesives. when worn the mask should conceal the user’s identity.
mood
With this project I wanted to explore the idea of transformation. A ritualistic mask allows the wearer to transform not only his identity but his reality as well. The mask gives him access to places and things far beyond the reach of simpler men. He has become someone different not something different.
vessel
problem statement: To design a metal vessel which contains, holds, displays or presents three pieces of fruit. This vessel should express emotional, attitudinal, metaphorical or spiritual qualities, which can be fully experienced and described by the designer. These same qualities, or ones that are similar, should be apparent to a person viewing and experiencing the vessel and the fruit.
mood
When I was a kid I asked my parents for an apple tree. I was captivated by the idea of picking an apple off the branch and eating it on the spot. With this project I wanted to explore the apple picking experience and bring it inside the home.

soap
problem statement Develop a name, packaging, branding concept, and sculpted form of soap for a specific, randomly chosen, consumer.
consumer profile A young banker from Australia who recently moved to the United States with his wife and infant daughter. They are homesick and suffering from skin allergies.
mood
With this project I wanted to utilize images, objects and ingredients that would be familiar to any native Australian. I wanted to convey how great the distance between Australia and the US really is. I wanted it to look expensive but it had to have a sense of fun. The playfulness would help justify the cost and thus justify the purchase.

The soapbar is shaped like a bullroarer. (and yes, bullroarers have rope or string attached to them.)
The word Dreamtime is the Aboriginal concept for the time before man or before creation.
pen
problem statement: To design a pen for the Marksman design award. Although the competition had its own set of guidelines our professor gave us the freedom to do whatever we wanted. I chose to explore the idea of signing one’s name in blood. The pen I created is meant for one time use or limited use. I wanted it to look painful but elegant. The presentation was also a key part of the project so I’ve tried to incorporate it into my portfolio’s existing layout.
