participated in two intern projects looking at different
brand expansion opportunities.

Traditionally tea drinking has been seen as a medicinal activity, but at times
the best method of healing is soulful contemplation. The visual language of
brewing speaks more to this medicinal past than toward the contemplative
nature inherent in the slow process of tea making
What if the tea pot felt your pain?
Ideation. Exploring different forms to find out what it would mean it give a tea pot the power
of empathy.

Mopey. Mopey is the perfect companion when the world has you down and you just
need to rest. He understands your stress and would be more than happy to just
sit around all watching raindrops slide down windows.
Prepare.
Prepare. Pour. Add.
Seep. Serve. Mope.
Instructions. Using mopey is simple as can be, just add hot water and tea leaves and mopey
does the rest. Giving you more time to sigh depressingly and curl up in a little ball
on the couch.
New balance asked the intern team to develop a series of expansion
opportunities based around their award winning Nbinside platform. I looked to
cycling with a focus on the then exploding fixed gear
Can a single shoe perform equally well on and off the
bike?
Ideation. A two part insole system was developed early on. It consists of a traditional
NBinside insole with an EVA plug, and a carbon fiber insole with an SPD cleat
attached. The rest of the ideation centers around lace removal systems and
achieving an aesthetic that matched the fixed gear ethos.

The walking insole features The riding insole features:
+ Super comfortable EVA insole + Carbon fiber construction
+ Abzorb heel cushioning unit + TPU cushioning spreads pedal load to reduce hotspots
+ Ground contact EVA outsole plug + SPD compatible cleat plate
Upper Direction. The upper direction was dictated primarily by functional needs. The forefoot is
wrapped in durable leather, which will distress beautifully. There are also 3M
reflective underlays on the saddle and foxing. A strap was added to allow a
relaxed fit while walking and maintain the ability to cinch ito a tight fit during riding.

Can a computer be locally grown? As part of an HP sponsored studio we were asked to design a next generation
sustainable computer. I chose to focus on localization as the driving sustainable
element.
What can compaq do to ground the computer to
reality while moving more operations to the cloud?
yes. The is the center piece of a new
regionalized system of manufacture and distribution. By decentralizing assembly
you have the opportunity to drastically reduce Co2 emissions while also tapping
into a sense of hometown pride, through the use of native materials and a
localized workforce, to create a stronger emotional bond between product and
user.

Distribution Scheme. The decentralization of the manufacturing process would look something like.
The more complex and process sensitive internal components would be
manufactured in a central location and shipped to the regional centers. There the
computers would be assembled. After an order is placed a Compaq
representative would hand deliver and set up the customers new computer. This
employee would then become the face of the company, always responding to
any service issues for that customer.

Ideation. Two different approaches were taken, the first was a look at the heritage of Nike
with visual cues toward Air Max tech. The second was a look forward exploring
the application of Nike’s latest technical innovation flywire.
Nike Flashdrive Line. The final direction used the theme of flywire with a focus on materials as the
primary differentiator of the good, better, best segmentation.
