Installation and Configuration Procedures
This packet has been developed to assist you in configuring
Outlook 2000 for the centralized Microsoft Exchange server on
campus.

Multiple Software Sources:
There are many methods for obtaining the Outlook 2000 software. Here are a few that may apply to you.
1. Installing from Microsoft Office 2000 (Configuration only)
2. Installing from CD
3. Installing from a Web site
1. Installing from Microsoft Office 2000 (Configuration only)
If you have purchased and installed Microsoft Office 2000 you have the Outlook software. Under this
situation you only need to configure Outlook to login to the Exchange server with your username. See
the Configuration section of this document.
2. Installing from CD
If you purchase the media (or CDs) you want to run Setup.exe.
3. Installing from a Web site (This option is currently not available)
Users can download the Outlook software from the Exchange/Outlook web site. Instructions for
downloading, decompressing, installing and configuring Outlook from the web site, are provided in
Chapter 4 of the Exchange Conversion Handbook (The Home Exchange) on page 34.
To install Microsoft Outlook 2000:
After starting the installation by running Setup.exe or starting a decompression procedure with a web
downloaded file, you will follow these steps. The installer program will verify your workstation according to a
verity of criteria.
• Type in your Name, Initials and Organization and accept the license agreement.
• Click the Install Now button.
• When Outlook is finished installing, it will request to Restart your computer. Restart as directed.
• After rebooting, Outlook will finish the installation.
Configuring Outlook 2000 to connect to the Exchange Server:
• When the install is complete, start Outlook (Start, Program Files, Outlook). This will initiate the
Outlook setup, click the Next > button.

• Outlook will ask about importing email messages, address books, and settings from another email
programs, for this documentation we will choose None of the above and click Next >.

• You can use Outlook to access a Microsoft Exchange Server, an Internet Mail server (POP, SMTP,
or IMAP), or No E-mail for stand-alone calendar features. For our purposes here, we will choose to
connect to the Exchange Server. Select Corporate or Workgroup and click Next >.
• On the Inbox Setup Wizard screen, only check the Microsoft Exchange Server and click Next >.
Note: You can add the Internet E-mail services later if you desire.

• At the Microsoft Exchange Server screen, enter the server as UCMAIL.UC.EDU and press Tab. Now
type your username at the Mailbox field and click Next >.
• On the next screen answer the question regarding traveling with your computer (i.e. No) and click Next
>.
• When you are finished configuring your Outlook software, you will receive this screen. Click Finish.
Note: Depending on the services you configure you may have different items listed on this screen. You are
now finished with the configuration part.

• When you see the Password screen, enter your username, the domain as UNIVCIN, and your
password. Click OK. Initial passwords are set to your social security number without the dashes.

Appendix 1 - Configuring Outlook for Internet E-mail (POP):
If you have an Internet Mail (POP) account (i.e. Bearcat Online), you can pull those messages into your
Outlook Mailbox.
• From within Outlook, click Tools and down to Services (or open your Control Panel and double click
on your Mail icon).
• Click the Add button and select Internet E-mail.
• On the General tab, enter a friendly name for the service (like Bearcat Online). Enter your name,
organization, E-mail address, and Reply address as directed above. Enter your username where
username is placed and your alias where First.Last@uc.edu is placed.
• Enter the information as displayed above. Enter your username and password.
The Connection and Advanced tabs are fine with the defaults. If you would like to leave your mail on the
server you designate that on the Advanced tab. Click OK and OK again to close the Services screen.
That finishes the configuration of your Outlook client to pull your POP mail (Bearcat Online).
