Subject: Post-doctoral and PhD opportunities at the Univ. of Waterloo, Canada

I am looking for a post-doctoral fellow (PDF) and a PhD student to
work on projects in Canada and/or China.=20

The PDF project is on the geology, structure and geochronology of part
of the Abitibi greenstone belt in the Archean Superior Province in
Ontario, Canada. In addition to mapping and understanding the general
geology of the area, the PDF will have the freedom to tackle any
scientific problems he/she wants to. Of particular interest are
implications of the results for the geological settings of mineral
deposits (especially gold deposits) in the area and for the tectonic
evolution of this part of the Superior Craton.

The PhD project can be on the geology and tectonics of the Precambrian
basement in southern China or of the Superior Province in Canada,
depending on the student's interest.
Project leaders: Prof. Shoufa Lin (Structural Geology and Tectonics)
and Prof. Robert Linnen (Igneous Petrology and Economic Geology) at
the University of Waterloo.
Project duration: 2 years full-time for PDF; flexible for PhD student.
Start of project: June 2007 or later.
Salary: Salary for PDF is Can$35,000 =96 40,000 per year (including

Both the PDF and the PhD projects are field-based. Candidates with
interest in field-based multidisciplinary research, with a focus on
