TITLE BOX

KEYNOTE FEATURE

BILL McCARTNEY, founder of Promise Keepers and former head

football coach of the University of Colorado, will be our keynote speaker at the

2005 Christian Ministries Convention. Author of Blind Spots (Tyndale 2003) and

4th & Goal: Coaching for Life’s Tough Calls (Tyndale 2002), he brings a powerful

message to Run the Race… Keep the Faith!

McCartney attended the University of Missouri and played center-linebacker.

In 1962, he graduated with a BA in education and married, Lynne Marie (“Lyndi”)

Taussig. In 1974, while attending a Campus Crusade for Christ meeting in Brighton,

Michigan, McCartney made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ.

In 1982, the University of Colorado hired McCartney as head football coach.

He helped turn the program around, and in 1990 the team won the Associated

Press National Championship. McCartney retired from coaching on January 1,

1995, immediately following the Fiesta Bowl. In 2003, he resigned from Promise

Keepers as President/CEO.

Recently, McCartney started “The Road to Jerusalem” which reaches out to

Messianic Jews who believe they can remain Jewish while accepting Jesus as the

Messiah.

You won’t want to miss McCartney’s challenge on Saturday to Run the Race...

Keep the Faith in your everyday life.

JOE NU’U believes that through the vehicle of sport and performance

training, young athletes can become strong physically, academically and spiritually.

His vision is to help young people, especially those at risk, to move out into

society as successful citizen-athletes.

This vision arises out of Joe’s own experience as a football player at an inner

city Los Angeles high school where he was a two-time All American linebacker

and fullback. At the University of Montana, Joe studied criminology and played

football. There he was twice named to the All Conference team as a linebacker.

Joe was the head football coach at Dynasty High School and Valley High

School in Bakersfield, California, where he also served as a youth pastor. Before

starting SportsBridge, Joe was the Urban National Director for the Fellowship of

Christian Athletes. Joe is the Founder and President of SportsBridge, and the

Director for Coaches Development for the Arapahoe Youth League Spartans

Club. He also coaches a football team for the Spartans.

Joe enjoys speaking to middle school, high school and college students on

various subjects such as “Being a Team Player”, “The Issues of Life” and “The

Importance of Character”. He has also been the Chapel Speaker for several

professional sports teams and addressed business groups nationally.

As a husband and father of three, Joe enjoys watching his twin daughters,

Ashley and Amber, play volleyball for the University of Colorado. His son Ryan

enjoys both baseball and football, and recently ran for his first touchdown.

LYNETTE CORNELIA

CORNELIA WILLIAMS & LYNETTE PICKERING

Join us for a time of Celebration with humor and drama. We will have some ‘fun’

with Lynette Pickering, a motivational speaker, humorist, and vocal artist, who will

lead us from laughter to tears. Cornelia Williams will present “The Race,” a drama

which focuses on the Father’s encouragement to help us defeat the discouraging

voices and continue to run the race for God.
