1. Leading, managing and developing people
Most of the roles will have staff management responsibilities. OFT Managers should be able to build effective working
relationships with colleagues and to provide structured support, coaching and encouragement to staff to help them
achieve their objectives. Please give an example which shows you have the skills required to be an effective manager.
2. Communication skills
All the roles will require strong communication skills. You will need the ability to write in a clear, succinct and
persuasive style. You will need to be able to explain sometimes complex issues in an understandable manner tailored
to suit different audiences and situations. You will be required to represent the Office externally at meetings and other
business events. Please give an example which illustrates that you have these skills.
3. Delivery and project management
All the roles are expected to deliver high quality work to time. This requires work to be effectively planned, organised
and prioritised. Objectives must be clearly identified and communicated to all those involved. Where required, project
plans have to be developed which set clear milestones and performance measures. Please give an example of a
situation where you have done this.
4. Analytical and judgement skills
The roles require you to demonstrate an ability to understand a range of complex arguments and pull together the
main strands, focusing on the key issues, making sound and timely decisions, showing a full awareness of potential
implications of proposals, balancing risk against reward, taking a strategic perspective and consulting appropriately.
Please give an example of when you have done this.
5. Team working
Strong team working skills are required for all the roles. You will be required to have strong interpersonal skills and the
ability to work collaboratively with a range of people. You should respect and value differences between people and
promote equality of opportunity. Please give an example which demonstrates you have these skills.
