Syllabus notes! (The number corresponds to the actual
IB numbered syllabus.) Each day you will get a piece of
the IB syllabus. Put the number down and then
paraphrase the information into your own words…
1.1.1 State that error bars are a graphical
representation of the variability of
data.
1.1.2 Be able to calculate the mean and standard
deviation of a set of values.
1.1.3 State that the term standard deviation is used to
summarize the spread of values around the mean, and
that 68% of the values fall within one standard deviation
of the mean.
Data Analysis activity of 9-5-08
On the back of the digital song data:
1. Take your class list of values and state the mean,
median (middle value) and mode (most common).
2. Compare classes. Use truths about Standard
deviation to make intelligent comparison
comments on the data from the different classes. (I
would love 5 comparisons…)
Graph on graph paper:
Make 3 graphs. Use 3 different types of graphs
to graph 3 different types of data that interests
you. (line, bar, scatter, pie, etc...) Label the
axes, have a title. Key? if necessary...
