ACT Exam Prep

Are you planning to go to college? Do you need to raise your ACT or SAT scores for college

admittance? Did you know that the higher score you have the more scholarships you can apply

for and receive? Raise your scores in a short period of time. Enroll in this ACT preparation

program and get REAL results. Our test prep courses help you develop test-taking skills and

strategies to beat the test. After taking an official retired test, our instructors will target

instruction based on students’ needs. Materials include pre- and post-tests, Cambridge Victory

textbook (1,000+ pages of skills, strategies, and practice tests). Bring a calculator to the first

class.

Conversational Spanish I

conversational structure, pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar.

Conversational Spanish II

This course builds on the basic skills learned in Spanish I and continues to build vocabulary and

fluency. Prerequisite: Conversational Spanish I or equivalent knowledge.

Conversational Chinese I

Do you need to know basic Chinese for business or travel? You will be introduced to the basic

grammar and a set of vocabulary generally recognized as useful in everyday communication.

This course adopts a multi-faceted approach to help you gain training in listening, speaking,

reading, and writing skills in standard Mandarin Chinese so you communicate in everyday

situations. Aspects of Chinese culture are also introduced.

Introduction to Health Careers

Have you ever been curious about what types of jobs are available in health care? In this course,

you will explore the health care sector and the associated career opportunities within it. Each

student will investigate specific health professions including the educational, occupational, and

professional requirements, employer expectations, job outlooks and related industry trends.

Comparisons of the various health care delivery systems will be presented, including traditional

Western and nontraditional Eastern models focused on treating illness and enhancing wellness.

The student will review the legal requirements of various health professions, to include

knowledge of standards of practice and codes of ethics which dictate the delivery of service.

Peace of Mind Retirement Planning

Learn about the key areas of financial management and how a comprehensive financial program

integrates all of these important concepts. You’ll learn how to integrate important concepts

whether you are preparing for, or already in, retirement. You will examine creating your

retirement goals, determining what is more important than money itself, assessing your

retirement costs, identifying sources of income, distributing funds from retirement plans,

managing your estate distribution, dispelling investment myths, developing a successful

investment strategy, providing for peace of mind investing, and more. The decisions you make in

these key areas will ultimately determine your financial success. Guest or spouse admitted free

with paid enrollment.

Mixed Media Art

Explore new ways of expressing yourself through art. Media available will include pencil,

charcoal, pastel, watercolor, and pen and ink. Beginning as well as advanced students are

encouraged to pursue the medium of their choice. Supplies needed will be discussed at first

class.

Always wanted to try watercolor painting? Here is a great sampler class for the beginner or a

Computer Basics

Haven’t taken the plunge into the cyber pool yet? This course is designed for those with little or

no experience with computers. Stark State College is participating in the Every Community

Online (ECO) initiative. The ECO program is designed to encourage broadband adoption in Ohio

by conducting training sessions throughout the state. The ECO project intends to provide

instruction in the use and maintenance of computer components, Internet use, and practical

applications of broadband access.

Yoga for Harmony of Body, Mind and Spirit

Bring harmony to your mind, body and spirit through stretching yoga poses, relaxation and

guided breathing. Yoga postures will awaken your strength, improve flexibility, and enhance

balance and endurance while reducing stress. All levels are welcome. Bring a yoga mat and

water bottle and wear comfortable clothing. You should only eat a light meal 3 – 4 hours before

yoga. If you eat too close to doing yoga or too heavy of a meal before yoga, you will feel

uncomfortable.
