11 TO COMMEND MONICA CANDACE ADAMS, HEALTH
12 SCIENCE TEACHER AT SAMUEL A. HEYWARD CAREER &
13 TECHNOLOGY CENTER IN RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL
14 DISTRICT ONE, FOR HER COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING
15 QUALITY EDUCATION FOR THE CHILDREN OF SOUTH
16 CAROLINA, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER UPON
17 ACHIEVING NATIONAL BOARD TEACHER
18 CERTIFICATION IN NOVEMBER 2008.

20 Whereas, it is with distinct pleasure that the South Carolina
21 General Assembly recognizes educators who approach teaching
22 with passion, creativity, and dedication, along with appropriate
23 academic preparation for their fields; and
24
25 Whereas, in the roll call of such South Carolina educators, Monica
26 Candace Adams, health science instructor at Samuel A. Heyward
27 Career & Technology Center in Richland County School District
28 One, stands high as one who has achieved National Board Teacher
29 Certification in the area of career and technical education; and
30
31 Whereas, the path to National Board Teacher Certification requires
32 an extensive amount of paperwork to document the quality of
33 teaching, two unedited videos showing two different lessons being
34 taught, and successful completion of a written test, in addition to
35 the time a candidate must spend carrying out his or her usual
36 teaching duties; and
37
38 Whereas, in preparation for teaching, Ms. Adams earned a
39 bachelor’s degree in biology at Wofford College and a bachelor’s
40 degree in nursing at the University of South Carolina, as well as
41 master’s degrees in health administration and health promotion,
42 both at the University of South Carolina; and

2 Whereas, presently a Career and Technology Education (CATE)
3 teacher, Ms. Adams has taught for seven years in Richland One;
4 and
5
6 Whereas, her classroom provides an environment ripe for learning,
7 where students can gain a firm educational foundation and grow in
8 self-confidence and respect for others under the mentorship of a
9 caring teacher; and
10
11 Whereas, the General Assembly is pleased to honor this
12 exceptional educator, Monica Candace Adams, and the members
13 join with her colleagues, students, family, and friends in extending
14 best wishes for continued success in her career. Now, therefore,
15
16 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate
17 concurring:
18
19 That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this
20 resolution, commend Monica Candace Adams, health science
21 teacher at Samuel A. Heyward Career & Technology Center in
22 Richland County School District One, for her commitment to
23 providing quality education for the children of South Carolina, and
24 congratulate her upon achieving National Board Teacher
25 Certification in November 2008.

27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
28 Ms. Adams.
