MAKE MINE SKINNY PLEASE…
Skinny jeans dominate denim fashion at Selfridges
With the ever flattering, leg lengthening bootleg now woefully out of date, we’re now
forced to preen our pins (skinny or otherwise!) into in jeans of a slender fashion.
Skinny jeans enjoyed a meteoric rise following last year’s paparazzi epidemic,
showcasing denim-clad celebrities sporting the signature ‘drainpipe-ballet pump’ look. In
fact Kate Moss has in fact done more to popularize this season’s silhouette than the
Anna Garner, head of fashion says “The skinny look came from the street as an antidote
to the soft boho of yesteryear. Go for lean rather than always skinny; a straight leg can
have the same and possibly more flattering effect than the drainpipe. Essential for
summer, the Suzy Radcliffe skinny in putty or white.”
How to wear skinny jeans with Selfridges’ style:
• Anyone not sporting a Kate Moss silhouette should not wear skinny jeans with
ballet pumps. Flat shoes only work on girls with slender pins, and do not flatter
• Tuck your skinny jeans inside mid-calf length boots to maximize leg length.
• Wearing chunky boots and baggy blouses with skinny jeans will make legs
• Make the most of your legs by opting for a narrow straight leg rather than the all
out drain pipe.
Skinny jeans at Selfridges:
Suzy Radcliffe skinny jeans feature a cufflink hem to help adjust the
length, enabling them to be worn as a crop, with flats or heels. They also
sport a foot stirrup to help keep the jeans tucked securely inside boots.
Available exclusively at Selfridges in spring/summer’s must-have skinny
in putty £154;
Cheap Mondays exclusive to Selfridges £49;
Ernest Sewn’s Harley skinny cigarette fit £189;
True Religion’s Billy featuring signature flap-back pocket £165;
7 For All Mankind offer both a skinny and straight leg £169;
Other skinny brands include Acne, Sass and Bide & April 77.
Don’t write off drainpipes as a female-only-fashion. David Walker-Smith, head of men’s
fashion says, “Rebelling against the seemingly eternal reign of the ever dominant low
slung, pants exposing, baggy jean, it was only a matter of time before the slim silhouette,
currently dominating male tailoring transgressed into casual wear.”
Streamline denim styles offered by Cheap Monday’s ₤40, and Prada ₤145, are ensuring
skinny jeans continue to make a significant impact in male fashion.
So with legs featuring as this season’s most prized possession, clad them in all things
tight and denim and wear your legs with pride this summer!
