Shallotte Elks Lodge Donates to Special Olympics
The Shallotte Elks Lodge 2854 has presented Brunswick County Parks and Recreation with a sizable donation to help with this yeas
2010 Special Olympics program. The Elks lodge hopes their donation will help fund new uniforms for our local Special Olympic
cheerleading team. The Brunswick County Special Olympics is a year-round program operated by Brunswick County Parks and
Recreation. Our local program participates in 11 of the 21 sports recognized by Special Olympics North Carolina. Currently we have
400 athletes from Brunswick County that participate not only locally but regionally, and at the state level. The Shallotte Elks Lodge
feel it is important to help local organizations raise money for Brunswick County programs. Not only do they provide donations, but
they provide volunteers that help facilitate the 2010 Special Olympics Spring Games in April 2010. Martin Brkal, a Shallotte Elks
Lodge Trustee, says that “When providing donations; they try to keep everything local to Brunswick County.” The Shallotte Elks hold
