Scenario: You are a member of a company (the cell) department (the
organelle or structure). Money is tight in this economy and you must justify
why your department (the organelle or structure) is absolutely essential to
the success of the company (the cell). Failure to successfully defend the
existence of your department (the organelle or structure) will result in
layoffs (you’re out of a job).
1.You and your neighbor will be assigned one or more organelles to research
and then present in class.
2. You and your lab partner will have to justify the importance of your
organelle to the organization of your “cell company” by using creating an
presentation including a catchy slogan. Why should your organelle not be

and concise (2-3 minutes max.). You can use the overhead, white board,
make a poster, etc. (No PowerPoint’s!)
4. Written requirements: none. You are graded solely on your “sale’s pitch”.
Rubrics (grading scale).
15: Clear, concise, creative and convincing (Your organelle will not be
fired.). Excellent Oral Presentation and Timing. Well-prepared, good
teamwork, excellent slogan.
12: Same as above, yet not all group members involved. Timing was off.
10: Not all members involved equally, somewhat confusing, not completely
convinced of importance of organelle importance.
8: Not all members involved equally, confusing, not completely convinced
of importance of organelle. Disorganized oral presentation. No slogan.
5: Oral presentation done by one person only, wrong information. No
creativeness, or catchy slogan. Disorganized. Organelle will be fired.
0: No presentation at all.
