Various Agreements Made at the Opening of Cairo
ICT 2011
H. E. Dr. Magued Osman Minister of CIT inaugurated the 15th
round of Cairo ICT, witnessed by H.E. Jean Felix Paganon,
Ambassador of France to Egypt
In his welcoming note, the Minister said that the importance of holding Cairo
ICT stems from the fact that it is the first international exhibition and conference
organized in Egypt after the January 25 revolution to announce to all the Egypt
will not be left behind, and it will continue to grow and develop as well as
support everyone who vows to work hard to achieve what is in the best interest of
the Egyptian people.
He added that Cairo ICT 2011 is held under the slogan “A Future in the Making”,
which confirms that the ICT sector is an integral part of changes taking place
around us and is side by side with all changes happening worldwide. He affirmed
that future is actually being made now and we have to be part of this making. He
went on to reiterate the importance of the ICT industry and its contribution in the
national economy which will positively reflect on other sectors of society.
Osman also witnessed the signing of several agreements and memoranda of
understanding. The first was between the (TIEC) and Nokia in the field of
training and skill development for Egyptian youth, as well as embracing their
creative projects. The second was between ITIDA and Cisco to establish a fund
for the support of ICT industry with a capital of USD 10 million for special skills
training to help them enter into African markets through the “Go to Africa”
program.
The Minister witnessed also the signing of 2 memoranda of understanding
between Huawei and The National Telecommunications Institute dealing with
launching the Egyptian training program, which comes in a Chinese grant at
about USD 4 million.
On the sidelines of the forum the Minister held several meetings with the
ambassadors of Kenya, Tanzania and Congo as well as Vice President of the
Regulatory Authority of the UAE. During these meetings they exchanged view
points of the most pressing issues in the ICT sector and means of boosting
cooperation in this field.
In his welcome note The French Ambassador to Egypt, H. E. Jean Felix Paganon
affirmed that France is committed to partnership with Egypt reiterating that

Egypt in the future will be a major partner to France. He expressed his happiness
at being present in Cairo ICT which is considered a huge international event
confirming that French companies are strongly participating in the expo and
forum.
On his part, Ossama Kamal, Managing Director of TradeFairs International, the
organizer of Cairo ICT, reiterated that Cairo ICT achieved a huge success under
the circumstances that Egypt witnessed after the revolution. He said that the
exhibition and forum received great support from the exhibiting companies and
the MCIT as well as the French presence as the guest of honor of this round.
He pointed out that Africa has become the new target of ICT sector in Egypt and
announced the start of a Regional competition, taking place in Nile Basin
countries where African students between the ages of 12 till 20 will compete in
different fields of innovation. The competition is organized by the UNESCO and
the Egyptian ministry of Foreign Affairs and is under the auspecies of H. E. Dr.
Essam Sharaf , the Egyptian Prime Minister. He concluded by saying that Egypt
will always meet anyone who loves it with arms that are wide open.
