Gilbert M. Roman
Served the Court of Appeals from 2005 until the present
Judge Roman was born on September 15, 1962, in
Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Alameda High
School in Lakewood, Colorado in 1980. He received
his undergraduate degree in Political Science from
Colorado State University 1984. He received his Juris
Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in
1987. Roman was admitted to the Colorado Bar in
1987, United States District Court for the District of
Colorado in 1987, the United States Court of Appeals
for the Tenth Circuit in 1987, and United States
Supreme Court in 2000.
During his career, Judge Roman has been a partner in
the law firm of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP in
Denver, Colorado. He served as Associate General
Counsel for Kaiser-Hill Corporation LLC in
Broomfield, Colorado and was a partner in the firms of
Roman, Benezra & Culver, LLC in Lakewood, Colorado and Feiger, Collison & Killmer,
LLC in Denver. He was an associate with the firm of Sherman & Howard in Denver.
Roman has been an adjunct faculty member for the University of Denver College of Law
and an instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. He has served as an
arbitrator and mediator for the American Arbitration Association and as an arbitrator for
the National Association of Securities Dealers. His legal practice focused on complex
civil litigation with an emphasis on employment law, commercial litigation, and
alternative dispute resolution.
Judge Roman has been a member and trustee of the Denver Bar Association and a former
Denver Bar Association representative to the Colorado Bar Association’s Board of
Governors. He has also been a board member of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association
and Hispanic National Bar Associations. He received the Richard Marden Davis Award
presented by Denver Bar Foundation to a Denver lawyer under the age of 40 who
combines excellence as a lawyer with creative civic, cultural, educational and charitable
leadership. He received the Outstanding Lawyer Award from the Hispanic National Bar
Association, the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award from the Colorado Hispanic Bar
Association and the Young Lawyer of the Year Award from Denver Bar Association.
Judge Roman is married and has three children.
