VACANT POSITION Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor (Casual – Temporary for up to 1 year) Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation Program
HOURS OF WORK 0.4 FTE
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Program Manager, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Vocational Rehabilitation
Counsellor manages, assesses and provides appropriate vocational rehabilitation interventions to a caseload of
persons participating in vocational evaluation, work adjustment training, and work placement programs. They may also
be assigned disability case management files and may be required to participate in the assessment of referred
inpatients and belong to the in-patient multi-disciplinary team. The duties of a Vocational Rehabilitation Counsellor
include vocational assessment, evaluation, counseling; and specific group work and program development where
appropriate. The Vocational Counsellor is required to write comprehensive vocational reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in counseling, preferably in rehabilitation counseling or Canadian Certified Rehabilitation Counsellor
(CCRC) designation;
Membership in Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (CARP);
3 to 5 years relevant professional experience in vocational rehabilitation;
Experience using various vocational evaluation and assessment tools including but not limited to the following: MBTI,
Strong Interest Inventory, CCDO (Canadian Classification and Dictionary of Occupations), NOC, CHOICES CT &
GATB/COII;
Require valid Ontario driver's license and use of a reliable motor vehicle;
Knowledge of business community and employment market skill sets necessary to establish varied and multiple job/work
trials;
The capacity to self-direct;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to include public relation competencies
Strong interpersonal skills;
Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills;
Knowledge of the auto insurance, LTD carriers, WSIB, CPP, and ODSP policies and programs.
Familiarity with Functional Capacity Evaluation methodologies.
Knowledge of community resources
Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing word processing, electronic mail, Internet software applications.
Ability to work under strict timelines.
