4x4 January Newsletter
Dear 4x4 families,
We hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year. After a nice little break I hope everyone’s batteries
are as recharged as mine and ready to get back to school. This
month we will begin to work on our Function Word Dictionaries.
This is to help with the important sight words that children
will likely encounter such as months, numbers, colors, shapes,
and days of the week. Although some may already recognize some
of the words the Dictionary will help to strengthen their
knowledge on already learned words, as well as expand it.
This month 4x4 and TK will begin our annual service
project that benefits Catholic Charities right here in Kansas
City. In May we will be taking a field trip to Hy-Vee for a
store tour and to purchase groceries for the Catholic
Charities food pantry with the money we have raised. The
actual store tour fee is included in the field trip dues (see
attached). The rest of the money used to purchase the
groceries will be earned by the students. We are asking that
students help out around the house to earn change throughout
the semester, and then we will have a day when the students
can bring in their change. On this day we will have special
activities where students will count and sort the change they
have earned. Instead of taking a bus for this field trip we
will have parents and teachers drive. This will help cut the
cost of the field trip. Last year we were able to donate over
$200 worth of groceries to Catholic Charities with the money
that was earned from the children as well as in the classroom.
When the field trip date gets closer we will send out more
details. So for now, just encourage your child to help out
around the house in order to earn some pennies, nickels,
dimes, and quarters.
Attached is our field trip information for the upcoming
semester. Please return payment by the date noted on our field
trip form. A sign-up sheet will be posted on the 4x4 bulletin
board right outside the office. If you are able to help out
with one of the field trips, including the bus ride, please
sign up on the bulletin board. The field trip to the Nelson
will be limited to two parent helpers, due to space
limitations at the gallery as well as the bus. We do, however,
like to have extra parents help at the Shatto Milk Co. field
trip since it is a long one. We still only have to parents to
ride on the bus with us, but anyone who wants to follow and
meet us there is welcome to do so.
Although we have not had nearly as much snow as we had
last year (knock on wood), we still encourage everyone to
review our “Winter Weather Policy” in the HTEEC parent
handbook. We will follow the Johnson County Catholic School
closings when there is inclement weather. Check the news or
our website at www.holytrinityeec.org for updates regarding
school closings. If HTS is closed for a snow day, then there
will be no 4x4.
Coming up on February 24th and 25th we will have our phone
conferences. We will take this opportunity to discuss your
child’s progress as well as any other questions or concerns
that you might have. There is a sign-up sheet posted on the
4x4 bulletin.
Registration for HTEEC will begin on January 14th for
those families that are already enrolled here. Please check
your child’s folder often as enrollment paperwork will soon be
sent home. Open enrollment will begin after we’ve allowed
HTEEC families to enroll, so it is important to return the
paperwork by January 21st so that your child is ensured a spot
in our program for the 2011-2012 school year.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our
Newsletter as well as for all of your help in 2010. Attached
you will find the calendar as well as our field trip
information. Notice that we have a No School day coming up as
well as a in school field trip. So please post the calendar
where you can check it often. We will continue to send home &
email reminders about these important dates. Please let us
know if you have any questions regarding our calendar or
newsletter. We can’t wait to get 2011 started with lots of fun
and learning in our 4x4 classroom!
Happy New Year!
