Work calls basics

About work calls
The BlackBerry® MVS Client associates your BlackBerry smartphone with your work number so that you can make and receive
work calls on your smartphone and access desk phone features, such as call transfer and voice mail. When someone calls your
work number, your desk phone and your smartphone ring at the same time. When you make a call on your smartphone using
your work number, your call appears to the recipient to be made from your desk phone. While you are on a work call on your
smartphone, you can move the call to your desk phone or to another phone number. You can also make and receive calls,
make and receive a second call during a call, place a call on hold, resume calls, and transfer and move calls using your work
number if data service is turned off on your smartphone.
You can perform many common phone tasks, such as making calls, checking your voice mail, or placing calls on hold. You can
perform these tasks the same way that you do when you use the mobile phone number that is provided by your wireless
service provider on your smartphone. You can find more information about these tasks by clicking the Help icon on your
smartphone.

Check the desk phone features that are available on your smartphone
Depending on your organization's phone system, some desk phone features or options might not be available on your
BlackBerry® smartphone. For more information, contact your administrator.
1. On the Home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.
2. Click Advanced Options.
3. Click BlackBerry MVS Status.
4. Click BlackBerry MVS Client.
The Call Control Settings section lists the desk phone features and options that are available on your smartphone.

About using the BlackBerry MVS Client with Wi-Fi
If you have a Wi-Fi® enabled BlackBerry® smartphone that is running BlackBerry® Device Software 5.0 or later, and you are in a
Wi-Fi coverage area, the BlackBerry MVS Client might be able to use the Voice over Wi-Fi feature to connect a call to the Wi-Fi
network. Charges that are ordinarily associated with your mobile network for such calls do not apply and you do not use any
minutes on your wireless service plan. To use Voice over Wi-Fi, you must be able to access BlackBerry services using the Wi-Fi
network, and your administrator must allow you to use Voice over Wi-Fi on the Wi-Fi network.
If you are set up to use your work number with both a Wi-Fi network and the mobile network, when you start a work call in a
Wi-Fi coverage area, your smartphone can automatically move the call to the mobile network so that you can continue the call
when you move out of range of the Wi-Fi coverage area. After being moved from a Wi-Fi network, the call remains on the

mobile network. Likewise, when you start a work call using the mobile network, your smartphone can automatically move the
call to the Wi-Fi network when you enter a Wi-Fi coverage area. If you move out of range of the Wi-Fi network, the call is
automatically moved to the mobile network and the call remains on the mobile network.

• You can prevent all callers from reaching you.
