Mohammad Federal Aviation Implementation of the Rotor $ 53,071
Dadashzadeh Administration Manufacturing Induced Anomaly
School of Business Database. The Aerospace Industries
Administration Association Propulsion Committee's
Rotor Manufacturing (RoMan)
Subcommittee has embarked on
creating a knowledge base to serve as
a tool for investigating manufacturing
induced anomalies of rotor disks in
commercial jet engines. The
manufacturers of turbine engine
components will provide information
related to manufacturing induced
anomalies of various rotating parts,
together with the background
information that will help relate these
problems to manufacturing methods
and materials. This research proposes
the development, full deployment, and
maintenance of the RoMan knowledge
base.
Patrick Dessert United States Jidoka Project. The Jidoka Project is $ 1,347,000
Product Army TACOM aimed at providing machines with
Development and human-like intelligence. This project will
Manufacturing utilize Jidoka Technology for the
Center creation and demonstration of an
Christian Wagner enabling technology which will help the
School of United States Army create systems that
Engineering and could perform their functions, including
Computer Science navigation and control, with availability
of 99.999% or greater. The
demonstration platform will be a
commercial vehicle which will monitor
vehicle performance in real-time. The
demonstration system will use sensors
to identify the type of road surface
being traversed and its condition.
Further, the demonstration system will
use the data from the sensors to
intelligently diagnose problems with the
vehicle. This is a collaborative effort
with the University of South Carolina.
Award Recipient Sponsor Title/Description Amount
Frank Giblin National Vision Research Infrastructure $ 212,454
Eye Research Institutes of Development Grant. This award will
Institute Health enhance the research capabilities of
Oakland University's vision researchers
in both the Eye Research Institute and
the Department of Biological Sciences.
The grant will provide researchers with
sophisticated equipment and services
in the areas of cell and molecular
biology, and ocular structure and
imaging.
Randy Gu General Motors Statistical Analysis of Staircase and $ 32,328
School of Corporation Overstress Probe Fatigue Testing. In
Engineering and the staircase fatigue test, commonly
Computer Science used to characterized fatigue properties
in GM engine components, hypothetical
normally distributed fatigue strength
data are generated which are then
sampled using the staircase test
algorithm. The results exhibited more
variation than expected. The purpose
of this work is to explore the limitations
in the staircase test and seek solutions
that can be implemented into Genral
Motors testing protocols. In parallel, the
overstress probe test will be simulated.
This may prove to be a better quality
control tool.
Award Recipient Sponsor Title/Description Amount
Carol Swift Michigan Interdisciplinary Certificate in $ 25,000
School of Department of Autism: Phase 3. This is Phase III of a
Education and Education multiphase project intended to develop
Human Services and implement an Interdisciplinary
Certificate in Autism (ICA). Phase I,
completed in 2002, identified
competencies for the ICA and
recommended implementation
guidelines. Phase II, completed in
2003, validated the feasibility of the ICA
through the development and pilot of a
portfolio review process. Phase III will
focus on marketing, administration of
the certificate, and any necessary
revisions to the process needed to
facilitate the granting of the certificate.
