Economics Development Talk in IPB

Friday, January 22, 2010

Developments and challenges ahead in building the nation's economy is very large. Department
of Economics, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) IPB is a four-year-old felt the
need to develop more so in accordance with the requirements. Quite a lot of courses developed
by FEM IPB, but it should be more focused to develop the specificity that can be offered so that
the relevant study programs do not overlap. But external factors also should be noted that the
developed courses are not far behind with the already developed overseas.

It was submitted by the Dean of FEM, Dr. Shaukat Yusman in Academic Workshop entitled
"Developing Graduate Economics Major Program" held by the Department of Economics at the
Mahogany Room, Building MB IPB (21 / 1). The event presents the Vice Rector of Resources
and Development Division, Prof. Hermanto Siregar, INDEF economist Fadhil Hasan, Director of
Macro Planning, Ministry of National Planning (Bappenas), Ir. Bambang Abbas, M.Sc.

Prof. 7 Hermanto said the economic problems of Indonesia's development of unemployment and
labor productivity is low, poverty and ignorance, inequality, lack of urban-rural linkages and
sectoral, public sector inefficiency, utilization of natural resources is sub-optimal and
industrialization that has not been successful, and vulnerability to external shocks. These
problems are caused Vietnam over Indonesia in terms of the Human Development Index in the
three categories of health, education, and the unemployment rate. "Just a little turbulence occurs
in the external aspects of the transmission and impact fast enough. Crisis of 2007, the United
States has many were on our cover, but still not completely well, "he said.

The approach taken by the government's macro-economic basis is not effective because of lack
of connect between the macro and mikronya. "As far as macro policy can be effectively received
by the Bappeda (which deal with problems directly micro), lest there is piracy program," he said.

So he thinks necessary empirical and theoretical understanding of policy planners and
implementers of the macro and micro. Also needed is an understanding of political and
institutional aspects. Implications for the S2 program curriculum of Economics and Economic
Development which is the recommended option is krurikulum applied (focus on economic
development) and the combination of theoretical and applied.

According to Bambang Prijambodo, input for the evaluation and development of IPB
development economics includes three major deepening of the underlying theory (with a brief
technical but in), its relevance to the development of Indonesia as well as comparison with other
countries. "Why is the strategy of industrialization in Malaysia successfully, why in Korea, too.
There was an error of attacking the system of human resources, which should have smart people
were supposed to move in the real sector, "he said.

According to the issues highlighted is the economic growth (still not forget the theory of
growth), employment, poverty, monetary, fiscal, international economic and trade policy,
finance, industrialization strategies, distribution of development to the area, as well as
environmental and climate change.

Up to the Country Study China

INDEF Director, Dr. Fadil Hassan, the empirical evidence says the combination of government
intervention and market economy is best considered in developing the economy for the region.
Thought neoclasic proven cause of the crisis. 2010, nearly every state will get out of the stimulus
regime that would make the system more vulnerable world economy. IPB is very strong in his
inductive thinking more in the direction of empirical studies. Today there are several different
things with the phenomenon of 70-80s, the current technological revolution gobalisasi and more

When formulating an economics curriculum that is expected to be able to answer relevant and
economic problems faced, local and situational aspects should be the focus in formulating
curriculum or course.

"This phenomenon is now China and India, China to repeat the Japanese experience. China uses
a system of market-based economy with the planning planning a strong state, which is planning
to market role. Of thinking that later revealed in a variety of more detailed development policy in
the field of fiscal, monetary and industrial. This is characteristic of China's economy, but of
course there is another factor that is non-political economy in which Indonesia is different from
China. This is what should be the orientation in shaping Studies Program. (Zul)
